Default Formula 1 Pirelli Grand Prix Du Canada 2019

    Predictions? Lets hear em.

I'm hoping Ferrari wakes up but I somehow doubt it. Leclerc win would be fantastic. Red Bull likely under-powered on this track.

Anyone watching it at a pub?

Slightly off topic, has anyone watched F1 from TSN.ca? If so, how is it?

It’s just like watching it from the tv but on your device?

I watched fp2 in it today. Shame that Canada’s sports network didn’t even cover fp1, watched that on ESPN.

Max out of Q3, should be an entertaining Sunday from him. Ferrari seems like they are on the pace in qually so far today.

    Montreal GP!!!
Fun fact, Montreal is the 3rd largest porn producing city after LA and Amsterdam and in the 1950's was one of the most important Heroin ports in north America..
    Anyhoooooo......

Well... Ferrari have certainly woken up. Rumour has it the team are trying to make it up to Le Clerc for the last race by 'peeking' his interest with a packet of Nongshim noodles courtesy from the international section at Walmart. He has 'ducked' right into the challenge and qualifed third.

Williams did fantastic at Monaco. They finally had a car that did not finish last. Sheer brilliance.. I see them continuing that great run of form in this race.

WTF happened to Bottas..? Q 5th..? Maybe it was the Alberda Beef he had while on his pitstop in Calgary..? Can you blame him.. how could he resist the lure of the Keg.

    Riccairdo has qualified third!!

Ferrari destroyed Mercedes in straight line speed. Hamilton was faster almost everywhere out of corners, but the Ferrari would catch up and make time before the next corner. This only happened in Q3 so it’s possible it’s just a qualifying mode, which means the race will be much tighter.

This is one of the very few tracks where Ferrari can use their speed. The rest of the season, they are not 1-2 level competitive.

Gonna be honest that's a bit of a shit decision. I feel bad for Seb. That's a really shit way for Mercedes to take that w. Good race though.

I'm apparently in the minority since I don't have much of a problem with the decision. The argument supporting Vettel seems to be that he didn't intentionally go wide because of the mistake that led him off the track. But that doesn't absolve him from benefitting him from the mistake either.

I fell asleep for most of the race so clearly I'm not that big of an F1 fan, so I don't know the rules as well as the rest of you. But that was just my thoughts.

My take is if he had full control of his car, then he should be able to take the racing line. But he said he didn't have control of his car, therefore he wasn't entitled to it. He knew he was forcing Hamilton wide and into the wall, so I'm okay with the ruling. Another driver error costs Vettel a win/position/etc - he's losing his touch.

At first glance it looked like Vettle did a Schumacher. I.e used his error to nudge a bit more to the right than he needed to.
But on the analysis I think it was a bad decision. Especially with no run off on the right and that turn being so tight.

I think a better decision would have been to make Vettle give the position to Hamilton and let them fight it out.

Mansell, Andretti, lots of notable people weighing in on the penalty and the general consensus I'm seeing is that the F1 people screwed up.
    Will fuck off, again.

I AM a Vettel fan, and I can see that the decision, although being a tough break, seems semi warranted. But It's hard to say, it's a tricky one for sure. He was already in the lead so he didn't gain an advantage by leaving the track. But he did make a mistake and then prevent a pass by re-entering the track. But shit, it's racing though. I'm not sure what else they expect him to do? Give Hamilton the spot because he made an error? All you can do is correct for your error as quick as possible and keep racing.

According to the rules, it's warranted. It's textbook unsafe rejoining the track. For the sport, especially for new followers of the sport, the decision sucked during race time. The fallout and drama is good for the sport though IMO.

Had a long discussion about this in our chat group, and I don't know if I want to truly let these guys race. One of the problems I have with IndyCar is that you get away with shit just to "enhance the racing", and at times, it's shitty unfair moves that go unpunished. That leaves a real sour taste in my mouth for an oldschool fan like me. F1, these guys will push everything to the limit if they know they can skirt punishment. Just look at how max defends the lead last year, really borderline, and everyone was pissed off at him. I dunno, maybe that shit IS good for the sport?
