Looks like they're planning on doing more treasure hunts.

The hype surrounding these hunts will give the next ones a big boost in map sales.

I’m sure they took a loss on the first round in hopes of building this thing. There’s no way they sold enough maps+clues to cover the $300k prize money plus all the full and part time staff they needed to take this off the ground.

Full and part time staff? They could do it with 1 guy with a twitter account and 3 plane tickets

To break even at $35 a ticket (some tickets were more) all they had to sell was 8,571 tickets. You don't think they even sold that in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver combined? Calgary and Edmonton are alone close to 3 million people. They easily made shit tons of money based on the publicity they got and the fact that they are intending to continue from here on.

I agree. I'd be very surprised if they broke even, but now that people see this was a legit thing, I'm sure they'll make up for it the next round.

Did you see how many people showed up at the kickoff event where they gave an additional clue? It wasn’t much. I really doubt hey sold 2000+ maps in Calgary.

Aglc is for sure going to step in am regulate these things. Just like those "writing contest can win a house" deals. Government won't leave it alone for long.
I don't know about that. It's not like AGLC gets a cut of these things, so they don't have a lot of motivation to push for regulation changes. They just exist to regulate the rules already in existence. Nobody has cracked down on the "contest" vs "raffle" grey area. Basically if you add a skill testing question that the raffle winner has to answer, or make some type of no purchase necessary entry in the fine print, then it becomes a contest instead of a raffle and it's not under AGLC jurisdiction.

Grab a calculator, it's pretty easy to accomplish. They basically had to average 2222 maps sold in 3 major cities to cover prize money. I bet they sold over 10,000 just in Edmonton.

I hope some actual numbers get revealed about this. I'd like to see the math on the actual ticket sales.

Nice, loved that place. Was my favorite pub when Beyond operated out of that strip mall.

They stepped in to investigate the house contest but in the end deemed that wasn't anything they needed to be involved in.
Yea, there's a second mansion being raffled off now.

Double that if they said McDavid randomly signed 10 of them.

What's to stop an acquaintance of the organizer to find the treasure before any legit player can?
    Probably nothing.

Even better if they just made an agreement with some random or distant acquaintance to "find" the treasure, and split the proceeds. Illegal I'm sure, but I don't know how anyone could ever prove it if both parties kept the secret.

I also don't know what would stop them from not even having a treasure, and just saying that nobody has found it yet so they never had to pay out.

Real winners create hype, hype is going to make way more than 100K if this thing starts steam-rolling.

Additionally NO ONE is going to keep their mouth shut forever if they got 50/100K and YOU started making millions. Absolutely no one.

a lot of paranoid people freaking out over a minor cost to a treasure hunt that's geared towards people having fun. How dare people spend a few bucks to have fun.

Considering only one person would win I dont think people who entered are upset someone else won.

This was the 2nd type of hunt like in Calgary in the last few years. Both created a lot of instant hype and then everyone forgot.

I would definitely be down to arrange something like this with someone else. Perhaps make one with the prize being a chance to win a Lamborghini (find the keys).

Or an actual safe with $100,000 in Cash.

Sort of like geocaching in a way except there's thousands of them out there. Nothing to be won though, usually, although I did place a Timmie's gift card in the first geocache I placed because you were going to get wet or muddy getting there and if you are clustrophobic or afraid of the dark, then that geocache will be extra challenging.
    Will fuck off, again.

I still can't figure out all the clues (and I'm there all the time), is there a break down posted somewhere? I was wondering why that lot was so packed when I went to get groceries last week. It's still a sore spot for staff there, I wouldn't use the words 'treasure hunt' around there for a while

for the vancouver hunt they posted a breakdown of the clues and all the answers. Did they not do that for the other hunts?

^Right on, thanks. Doesn't seem like it narrowed it down much other than the plaza so there would still be a lot of searching and luck once you're there.

Too bad I didn't bother with this. Kenny and I used to work there when we started Beyond haha. That's where our office was, between Lakeview Bakery and Macs. Looking at the clues, probably could've figured it out pretty quickly.
