Picked up some XC bikes over the weekend, took girl for her first little ride on a mountain bike ever this morning. Came down Canyonero (that put her in a fun mood haha) then over to beaver fever to swampy, and then crescent to sluice. Couple muddy sections. Some spots were pretty eroded and rutted out. But pretty enjoyable, she even tried riding over a couple of the log sections, fell and got back up with a smile.... should be a successful way to spend time together I hope!

I rode all over invermere/radium this weekend, lovely singletrack... mostly blues as I have a XC...

that said... I'm pretty sure some of the features at Fish are as hardcore as they come, just short. Great place to build skills.

Other than it being a 25k slog for say a loop say up by Swansea... Fish is really a fun piece of track
Lots of fun stuff out around invy, you're right though, it's not necessarily harder skill wise just longer rides.

Think i’ve decided on my “quick lap”, did this today. Last night I did an extended version with the girl which included fuzzy groover, that was fun... but the paved hill up to the top of it was not. I’ve never seen anything so steep paved!

Ya that paved up hill is crazy. That use to be the way I’d go back up. But now I go back east and cross the bridge and go back up that way. I need to track how long it is, takes me 12 min or so per lap.

My wife and I were out for a walk in Fish Creek a while back (last year or the year before) and went up that path. A fewe teens were coming down, carrying their skateboards and one looked like he had tried riding it down and it didn't go well. He was banged up pretty good and still a bit dazed.

When we bike in Fish Creek, it's just to cruise, as the wife has a step-through (mine's an XC).

Is that mostly the paved stuff? I haven't noticed a whole lot for dirt tracks on that side, although I do see the occasional one leaving/entering the main paved path. I used to do some biking on the south hill, when I was much younger.

Only paved in the middle linking the two loops on either end (and on top of the ridge before dropping down Canyonero). Check out Trailforks, tons of single track. The ridge to blind corner then looping back on sunset meadows is the western loop on there. Nice mix of climbs and XC, bombing down sunset meadows is pretty fun too, not technical, just smooth tall grass single track

I just moved to woodbine and need a bike to explore fish creek. Any suggestions? <$1,000?

Kijiji all the way... tricky part is finding the correct frame size. Here is a couple examples

if you build a good loop at Fish, you can have a really good time.

I do have problems climbing back up say to Sundance estates, but what a fun little bit of downhill rush that it, and its not overly technical with roots or rocks (where Evergreen is far more)

I rode around a few blues last weekend out in Radium/Invermere/Windermere and though the scenery is nicer... and there is loads of single track (dusty)... Fish has pretty much every terrain and difficulty level to learn on.

Those rocks and roots are a touch slippery down there when wet

Wow - that's quite the hit. How's your head? Last helmet I cracked was striking it off a tree branch (big enough to knock my off my bike) and it didn't look nearly as bad as your helmet.

Head was better than my neck is feeling! Haha, face is missing some skin though. Dunked it into the weeds off Canyonero and used my face to stop. Strava was recording 20km/h prior to! Lost my line coming across some wet rocks

Holy shit, good to see you're okay ercchry. After the two bad spills I had last year, there's no way I will ever ride without a helmet anymore as I clearly remember hitting the pavement with my head each time. Could have been a lot worse had I not had a helmet.
