^^ Who is to say they aren't declaring it as income?

If I was handling that much digital money transferring in and out of my account, I'd definitely be declaring it as income to avoid trouble. CRA couldn't give a shit if you make money illegally... in fact they encourage drug dealers to declare income without risking getting in trouble. All they care is that you declare it so they get their share, haha.

Doesn't matter what you declare at year end. Your account is still getting shut down before then.

That's a great idea, and then when you get pinched, you can call up CRA for a character witness..... yes this gentlemen is honest, he declares all his income and pays taxes.

I recently won on a waffle site on Facebook, just wondering if anyone else knows any others??? This one is called western Canada recreational powersports. There’s like 5500 people which is a bit to say the least but I don’t want to wait till something I’m interested in. It’s addicting to say the least!
what did you win, how much did you pay to enter, and do you actually have the prize in hand?

I'm in a wheel waffle groups. Scoring a set of TE37's for $50 or $80 would be sweet

Aren't these very similar scams to those sites that sell bids for auctions like QuiBids?

Sounds kind of crazy, but it is a legit thing.... although if you are reporting illegal income you shouldn't be actually reporting it as "income from cocaine sales".... it should be a lot more vague, like "multi-level marketing income" haha.

Oh I wasn't making a comment that it wouldn't be possible to do. Just funny how it works, funny thing is that if they are reporting the income, then they can deduct "legitimate" business expenses as well. Buy a gun, deduct it as protection, etc.

This is a great example from a textbook that is currently used:

Profits From An Illegal Business Many people are aware that the famous American gangster Al Capone was sent to jail, not for his illegal activities involving alleged robbery and murder, but rather for his failure to pay taxes on the resulting profits. As illegal revenues must be included in business income, related expenses are generally deductible. This can lead to interesting conclusions as evidenced by a publication of the New Zealand Inland Revenue Department. This publication provided a detailed list of items that could be deducted by what was referred to as "sex workers". Without going into detail, we would note that see-through garments and whips were on the list, provided they were used in delivering services to a client.

I would hope anyone wanting to claim illegal profits, would be smart enough to start a fake business to claim it as legal income. Just say you're a personal trainer, super easy to fake all the books and claim as much income as you want.

One of my field guys just won a $10,000 house boating trip. It included the actual house boat rental and the difference in visa gift cards to buy food, booze, and get himself there. Needless to say he was pumped and doubled down on his waffling.

I had a buddy in GP do this for hockey cards all the time. He would be involved in half a dozen any given night.

Probably nobody since there isn't enough users to make it worthwhile.

I would be down for a beyond waffle. Doesn’t have to be a crazy prize, something like TV or $1000 Costco gift card would be good

I'd be super careful how this was organized and advertised since it's illegal. Stay safe friends.

is it actually illegal though? what if we make the prize worth the exact same $ collected with no profit?

i.e. $1000 costco gift card, sell 40 raffle tickets at $25, no extra money for anyone to declare as income.
