You maintain good soil by doing what's been suggested several times in this thread, sending a sample to a lab. I just spread 30lbs of gypsum soil conditioner on my front yard, as recommended by the technician, to reduce sodium, increase calcium and loosen the soil. A sample is pretty easy, not too expensive and might save you money in the long run as opposed to just throwing a bunch of fertilizer at it.
You guys are over thinking it.

If 10 years of perfect lawn isn’t proof, what is?

    Soil samples

    water, feed, sun, simple.

Sure man, your pics are proof, your fertilizing regimen should be adapted by everyone, how could so many people be over-complicating things Fuck taking an analytical approach, that's not how you "maintain soil"

If you want to learn more about lawn care, there's a great forums with people who actually know what they are talking about: https://thelawnforum.com/

From all the shitty lawns I see in the neighbourhoods, maybe they should.

Maintaining an existing good lawn is a lot different than trying to rebuild a shitty lawn. There is no way that fertilizing weekly and water will just magically fix OP's lawn - in fact, that much nitrogen on unhealthy grass would do more harm than good.

I would suggest Green Drop. Great for people that are hands off and don't care to learn. For 250 they come out 4 times a year and spray for weeds / fertilize. 2 Seasons with them and you will have a great lawn.

Are you guys actually sending a soil test to a lab, or just do one from RONA?

I’ve turned around shittier looking lawns than his using the same approach, and had the same great results. Usually takes 3 months.

9/10 it’s just lack of care, people don’t water or feed enough, cut too short, don’t remove weeds, don’t remove dog shit, etc.

    Just laziness

Spread some top soil/ compost, seed, fertilize and water.

    Sit back and enjoy.

Also, as mentioned, leave your lawn a minimum of 3.5" in length.

Do you have a dog? It looks like there are quite a few brown/dry areas in the middle/right. Or maybe all the fertilizer is killing it haha.
