Except they would never do that because players on teams who have played fewer games and just barely miss the playoffs would file a grievance with the NHLPA. They might not get paid, but they do get performance bonuses depending on how far into the playoffs they get.

If the league felt it was safe enough to proceed with playoffs, they'd feel it would be safe enough to finish off the regular season, or at the very least enough of it with a modified schedule so that everyone played an even number of games.

It is all speculation at this point, i am just holding onto hope that we still get to see a team win 16 playoff games and take home the worlds greatest trophy.

I wonder if they'd just cut the season now; calculate everything on % of points earned to accomodate different games played and then begin the playoffs. Could also do shortened playoffs too, best of 5 or best of 3.

Could feasibly play it all within a month in July or August if need be.

I can't see them resuming this season at all. Like others have said you sacrifice next year by playing so late into the summer. They will follow the NBA's minimum 30 day "postponement" and when they revisit it and realize they need to hold off longer they will just outright cancel it. Shitty deal, but this is going to have an impact on pretty much every sport/large gathering like concerts and festivals for months still.

Play to 74 games is 90% of the season. Make Round 1 and maybe Round 2 a best of five and go from there.

There will be discrepancies to using the current standings-some bubble teams have games in hand-some have played more home games. Some have games left against weaker teams or head to head games against teams fighting for he same playoff spot.
