Family operation that does excellent work, they re-did our roof after the insurance company's first choice botched the job. They even cleaned up after the first company, cleaned the gutters, magnet swept the grass for nails, took away the left over garbage from the first re-roof. The re-did the skylights to, looked a hundred times better on the inside fitment.

Derek is your brother? Cool. Big 5 did my house last year.

Good job and good follow up service. Plus one for big 5.

    Hey glad to hear it

I used to hang eaves/soffit with my old man back when I was 15/16/17. My little brother Allen and older brother Derek run the show now.

I used Meerkat Roofing and the were awesome. They came back 4 years later and fixed a piece of trim that had come off in a wind storm, no charge or hassle.

So here's what I find interesting, I contacted both companies last Sunday, received call backs on Monday from both saying I would have a quote within a couple days but here's a week later and nothing...

I'm surprised with the lack of contact, perhaps the job is too small for them to quote?

A beyonder has at least reached out to me via PM and hopefully we can get this going

I had contacted 3 companies and all 3 gave me a printed itemized quote on the spot. Ended up going with A-Clark roofing and couldn't be happier.

I'm having the same issue for drywalling. Promised a quote and haven't heard back, I guess the trades aren't hurting for work these days?

What I learned is you can pester a lot of these guys enough to come and actually do the work for you, but they tend to do lower quality work, for more money, and are not very prompt.

My advice is when this happens, don't get upset... just move onto somebody who is more enthusiastic about doing the job.
One of the companies I contacted, the person who called me actually lives in my community

Considering one of the companies is Cam's brothers' it's odd I find

Wait, Derek didn't get back to you? If so I'll give him a call and give him a kick in the ass.

Nope, called me June 6, said I would hear back within a couple days. I asked him if he needed me to be there and he said no

Anyways, I don't go after people for quotes, I just move on to the next company

I contacted all 3 companies listed above (Meerkat, Big5, and ExteriorPirates). Got quotes from all 3. ExteriorPirates were the quickest to respond, then Big5, and I just got Meerkat's quote in my e-mail today. Contacted all 3 via their website.

    For my application:

Meerkat is the most expensive and least detailed. Have line items saying this and that will be extra if they encounter it, but didn't include some of the simple things the other 2 caught right away.

Exterior Pirates responded quickly and had me a quote next day (or maybe 2 days later). Have provided 2 follow-up calls to ensure that any questions I might have about the quote are answered (first one I had got the e-mail but not looked at it yet, so they gave a second). Chatted with the GF who was home when they came by and she told me that night she liked them. Really polite, nice people, etc... Also happens to be the cheapest quote of the 3 for me.

Big5 took a bit longer, but I do believe I got a call back to say they would get to me closer to the end of the week and I was fine with that. Quote came in a bit higher then Exterior Pirates, but not as high as Meerkat. Both Big5 and Exterior Pirates had very detailed quotes, and caught the same couple of things (like adding roof vents to the garage).

I would be comfortable going with either Exterior Pirates or Big5. We will probably end up going with Exterior Pirates as the experience my GF had with them boosts them up a bit more (and happy wife happy life).

YMMV but this is what my experience has been.

Bump for an old thread. I have a call in to Big five this morning to get them to investigate a small leak I have around my skylight. It only leaks when we have major storms, so I may have time for additional quotes. Any other companies suggested? Does Legacy have a good reputation (aside from their boss's reputation on these forums, which I know.)

I have a small leak my roof (I think), that showed up in the storm last night. I'll call Big5 to see if they can come look at mine, too
