    Default Your recommended Linux distro?

I've been getting into Linux again as I'm wanting to run my "server" on a more stable OS (currently Windows 10) and then run Windows VM.
I currently have a Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS and have a laptop running Lubuntu 19.04 but not really liking it and might change it to Lubuntu 18.04 LTS instead.
I've also heard of Linux Mint and the various flavor Cinnamon, Mate and XFCE and am currently testing the later.

What do you guys recommend or which one are you currently using?

On a side note, I've been thinking of changing my parents OS from Windows 7 to Linux as WIndows 7 will be end of support in 2020 and they don't really need Windows 10. My mom has a Surface 3 with Win10 for that anyway.
But they have 2 towers that they use primarily for internet, social media and video streaming.
Which distro would you run for elderly or kids?

I'm reading that Linux Mint Cinnamon is the most similar to Windows so might be giving that a try

For servers, I've been using Centos for quite a few years now.
It's basically Red Hat Enterprise Linux minus a few proprietary Red Hat components.
    Very stable.

For my personal workstation environments, I prefer Kubuntu. Actually, I don't even use much of KDE at all but I've been using it for so long, it's kinda hard to break the habit and I don't care much for the other Window Managers.

But for servers, I'd stick with something based around Red Hat like Fedora or CentOS depending on what you're using it for. But that's personal preference, cause it's what we've always used at work and I know my way around it without thinking.

Ubuntu is the most obvious and easiest choice..

If you want to dick around.. a Mint variation is a good choice.

thanks, forgot that I downloaded CentOS, might give it a try on a VM first but I was having issues installing it on the laptop that I gave up but I think I know how to fix it now.

I went with Lubuntu as I wanted a light OS but LXDE being abandoned for LXQT worries me a little. I'll play with the various distros to see which one I like better.

I mostly only work on Ubuntu server, or Rasbian. I don't have any personal machines that I bother running linux on with a GUI.

If you are strictly looking at hypervisor, ESXi is free.

Thought about this but needed to virtualize all my Windows system first.
Now that all my servers have been virtualized, I can easily move them to an ESXi box... might do this later this year.

Regarding Linux distros, I tried kubuntu, xubuntu and Mint but felt more comfortable with Lubuntu 18.04 LTS.
This is what I'm running now and will start experimenting with 19.04 but will probably wait once LTS version is out.

Yeah, don't bother with the non-LTS releases. Next one doesn't come out until April.
