I think it's something to do with the suspension. There's a lot of odd mixes with AMG suspension. I remember I couldn't get the aero package on the C63 BS because I had back seats, can't handle load of passengers + downforce. The E53 and E63 wagon doesn't have the trunk jump seats for what I believe are similar reasons. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Anyways, way OT now haha.

My Mazda 6 says DO NOT NOT NOT TOW WITH THE MAZDA but the DEALERSHIP fucking installed a trailer hitch and I've pulled a fucking sailboat with it. I think the same manual says DON'T DO ________ anything other than put gasoline in it, so it's a load of shit.
If it has adequate brakes and enough tranny cooling to deal with some extra load, they can fuck completely off. It's called EARTH and it's this same mentality of #ClimateChange BS like it only happens where you live that's creating this completely fictional set of "standards".
It turns out, there are mountains in Europe. I'm not planning on putting a fifth-wheel trailer through the hatch but if I want to drag some completely "recyclable" polystyrene to the dump or a motorcycle to Kelowna, Mazda can blow me.

I've been looking for evidence of bent frame from towing, particularly unibody cars and trucks. Interestingly enough, I've only been able to find trucks (body on frame) bends from towing over capacity, or going over bumps, or both. By bumps I'm talking about offroad bumps, not speedbumps or potholes. This is the one example I have on the ridgeline forums looking for bent frames. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

...A friend of mines Chevy Colorado with 10k miles was towing a 2100# camp trailer on a dirt road and hit a bump. This is the result. GM sent out an “investigator” 6 weeks later and has denied any warranty claims. They state the “the truck has 1” taller tires as the first reason. The second reason is the trailer is 2100 pounds, in the owners manual it states that trailers over 2k pound should have brakes. (Towing capacity listed as 5k) Since hit trailer is 100 pounds overweight and doesn’t have brakes that’s what the frame bent. No other damage to truck. GM’s investigator took trailer to a certified CAT scale. Trailer is 2100lbs. Tongue weight is 347lbs. Think twice about that Colorado purchase if you actually use your truck as a truck.

^ I feel like I have heard that story and it was debunked. Maybe the Colorado thread?
But I understand your example. Still doesn’t mean pulling over rating in a passenger car like you are a hero is a good idea. Something is going to break, even if it’s not the frame.

I agree, too. By "sailboat" I certainly didn't mean a 42' Catalina. LoL! I'm just frustrated that they won't indicate a capacity, at all. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

@ExtraSlow here is the door sticker. Looks like the truck is rated for 10,700 lbs on 18" wheels. It can be as high as 12,900 lbs on 20" wheels according to Ford's guide, which the truck is on now.

I mean the white and yellow one that has tire stuff in it. Should have a calculated payload for yiur truck taking into account options.

Thanks bud.
So basically 3/4 ton capability. Makes you wonder why you would bother with an F250 unless they are capable of far more.

Slightly more payload but 3/4 tons will do it all day, every day with significantly less problems. 1/2 tons are for daily driving and occasional heavy usages. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You can get lower optioned f150 up to 2800lbs payload.
What's so max tow about 1700 lbs of payload? 2500+ lbs seems more like it.
My ‘13 had the max tow... but what really bumped up payload was the “heavy half” package (can’t remember the actual name) ...came with stupid 7 lug axlesThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Pallet and a half of sod...
And no, I wasn’t driving it... sent the woman down to pick it up, did some calculations online before but didn’t factor in a fresh rainfall! She drove all the way up from aldersyde like that haha
This. I seem to remember it being 90km/h when we did a long eurotrip a few years back. Seeing little Volvo's towing trailers that appeared to be twice the size is quite hilarious though. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Here our tow ratings are based on substantially higher speeds, that's what it all comes down to.
I bought a truck that can tow 11K to haul my 5.5K trailer/car combo just so I can set cruise to 120 and have an ultra relaxed towing experience
Ive got an f150 and it says i can tow up to 12k but i cant see how that would be ideal for any distance or often. The most ive towed was around 9k lbs and it was no walk in the park. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That car is probably quite capable of towing that boat, body on frame car btw.
Will fuck off, again.
