If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Seriously? Are you 16? Never driven a full size old car before? Those B Body GM's are more a truck then a Ridgeline. Full body on frame with a v8

Man, when I was a kid, we used to tow our old travel trailers with cars all the time. We had a 1950's Shasta trailer that we pulled with a 1979 Chrysler New Yorker, and our neighbor we would go camp with towed his travel trailer with what I think was a old Toronado.

Just going to leave these here to stir the pot up. Had one for years, put that thing through so much abuse it wasnt even funny. Never had a transmission issue of any sort, just burnt lots of fuel when towing. The Allis got pulled 11 hours from Sask.

Haha fair enough, she did it though. IMO most people who buy 1/2 tons now could get away with a ridgeline or tacoma or something. If I wasnt towing fifth wheel campers and 4 place sled trailers I'd still lean to the ridgeline. Was much nicer to park downtown than my 2500. Because of this I had to buy a commuter for day to day.

Still would love to have a Maloo R8 or something here.

just because you did it doesn't make it safe or recommended.

They’re rated for 1650lbs of towing in the EU.

Just so you are aware, all of those tows are not over 5k... Would be very close but shouldnt be over. Even the big john deere is only like 3000 lbs, plus the trailer.

I know its at its max, but it was the only option at the time. Now that I tow more I have a 2500. Would I have liked my diesel for some of those tows, you bet, but the point was there was no issue with it being a unibody.

Nobody towed with a truck in the 70's and 80's. Every picture in my Airstream manual is a car.

Even before I was born mid 70s, all my extended family in Alberta had campers and trailers and all were pickups. Maybe towing with cars was a city slicker thing? I’ve have never seen it in this province, nor has my mother that I just asked.

In the 80's and early 90's, we used to tow this (not that quite of a bright pink):

    With this:

Towing with cars is still the norm in Europe.

That is because they were all green-earth wagon driving hippies

Trucks started coming into the picture when rednecks started camping
I think trucks really got into the picture when crew cabs became popular. Otherwise you had to take 2 vehicles on a trip, or stuff 2-1/2 kids and wife into a regular cab.

Haha my childhood was riding a foam pad in the bed of the single cab diesel 250 with the trailer out behind. With 4 people on the bunch up front.

If you were good you got to go on the ride back to get the boat up front. Sometimes we got to shift because we were too full up front.

Nah, we would ride in the camper overhang and crawl into the truck through the back window. I don't remember ever riding in a trailer, but box of the truck, camper and running around inside a camperized van was all good.
