Default How to get rid of birds nests ?

So some type of bird has made a nest in this piece of wood at my house that the builder decided would be a great idea to leave as a U shape and not actually finish the top.

At the moment or atleast last week there were baby birds in the top right but now there are more nests to the left

IIRC, it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. You have to wait until nesting season is over and then remove them.

You're likely breaking the Migratory Bird Convention Act and provincial Wildlife Act if you mess with nests that are active... enjoy them nesting there for the year, remove nests in the fall, setup something to block them next time

dunno where you're located but it might be advantageous for you to keep them there.. depending on the type of bird, it could take care of mosquitoes during the summer.

Agree with the others, most nesting birds are proteced species ('cept maybe Pigeons) Definitely leave them till fall.
We have a Robin's nest waaay up by the roof. Young have fledged, but Robins sometimes have 2 batches, so it stays till the fall.

While it is all nice and dandy to say its illegal to disturb a nest, I had a robin dive bombing my wife and kid because the nest was on our deck. I broke the law that day.

Wife can't fight off a robin? Time to trade her in.

Wife is fine, it was my toddler that was the concern.

I put bird spikes to prevent future nesting. I got these ones here https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EJXVMUQ/..._.zKfDb07QYC6S

    Oops...

We had a woodpecker nesting in the bathroom vent. It was either the bird or my sanity.

Don't take advice from a penguin. He's biased.
