Ridgelines have surprisingly high payload being awd and 4 door. They are 1450-1550 lbs, not bad for something most people don't consider a truck.

My dad has always been very complimentary of the hauling abilities of his Honda minivan. Something about fitting longer pieces of lumber in it than my truck can.

So almost as good as a minivan from the 1980s. Still not a truck.

I've always told people, vans are built for hauling cargo, trucks are for towing. Neither do the other job very well, from my experience of using both trucks and vans to their limits over the last 20 years.

My understanding is that BC is far more strict with overloaded passenger trucks. But what does the law in Alberta say? I found the RV Towing Guide from Alberta Transportation and it says it's only recommended to not exceed.

The GAWR is the safety standard to prevent overloading and the requirements are set by Transport Canada.

Shouldn't the GAWR and tire load rating be of more importance than the payload sticker or GVWR?

I've been told by people who run commercial vehicle training courses to only look at the tire rating. That's all AB cares about.

I searched around some more online and found a few people saying just that. If you get pulled over, they go straight to the tire rating. I wonder how many people don't think of their tire load rating and get caught by that.

RV's don't get pulled over in Alberta. It just never happens. BC actually does once in a while.

Speaking from experience, half tons have tires rated higher than the axle. Even the p-metric factory tires on most half tons will be rated to carry more than the axle.

Well I certainly have enough power. Stopping might be questionable. Should have bought the big brake kit.
