    Default Any self taught musicians?

I've always loved the sound of a jazz trumpet and I'm thinking about just going ahead and buying one and teaching myself from the internet how to play it.

Any beyonders ever done this? Care to share?

Trumpets are awesome. They are way more oxidation resistant than trombones. Good choice!

Even a rusty trombone can be cleaned with sufficient spit.

False. The human saliva with a neutral PH range is ineffective against rust. Vinegar is a much better alternative.

Self-taught guitar player, though rely on tabs to play.

That said, before guitar I played piano and was taught for a couple years. I really think there is value in it, especially at the beginning when you're learning timing -- learning to read sheet music is just repetition and quick reconignition. I would predict it to be quite easy to develop bad habits without a teacher, but that is just my opinion.
