    Default New Dash Cam recommendations?

I searched, but most everything is 3-5 years old now. I know there has been big improvements in this industry since then.

Looking for a dashcam that won't break the bank. But not the cheapest POS out there either. Just looking for some key features like front and back facing cams, shock sensitivity to turn on when the car is parked and gets hit, good enough picture quality to read a plate at a decent distance. Must be hardwired, but it appears that they are mainly micro USB power wires, and a hardwire kit for that is like 15$.

This is one I came across without much effort on Amazon.

I just ordered one from Banggood.com. Back and front cam.
I bought a conversion thingy to hardwire it. I paid about $45 I think.
Will update once it comes in the mail.

I saw one on their email deals last week for 43$. Probably the same one.

I need to get one ASAP, that's why I was looking at Amazon. Didn't want to wait for China shipping(even though it seems to be quicker than shipping from U.S.) I'm sick of the shit in this Province. Some idiot kid side swiped the wife in the GLE the other day. He ran straight to the cop shop to file a report and say that she somehow swerved into him. So now I have another ordeal with insurance yet again. Last car before it was stolen got hit and ran twice. dashcam would've handled all of these incidents.

The new YI Nightscape if you are after a budget recommendation. Approx $97ish
Same form factor as the existing Yi but it is now a capacitor based came instead of lithium, they also upgraded to the Sony Starvis sensor which has much better night vision.
Only complaint with this one so far is that after a peroid of time the camera hassles you to rest and you can't turn those prompts off

The Viofo A119 v3 was just released as well. Video quality of that one easily matches the high end dash cams. New pin structure on the GPS mount, and better resolution. If you don't mind not having WiFi then this would be my recommendation @ roughly $150 from OCD Tronic on Amazon.

Dual channel go for the A129. Lower resolution than the A119 V3 but includes WiFi and the rear camera. Reliability has been good from what I've read on the dashcam forums. Approx $230

Cheapest go with the B1W. Best stealth style with a decent app, most of the control must be done through the app. I've installed this on my parents car and its been solid. Approx $70

All are prime on Amazon, just make sure you order from a reputable dealer. Black box my car, OCD Tronic, Spytec

I use the thinkware f550 front and back in my truck at the moment. It's been awesome. I think it was originally $250 for the front and 99 for the rear camera.

I've been looking at upgrading to the black vue 750 or 900 series dash cams. I'm mostly interested in the wifi capabilities but there are lots of other options you can use including remote viewing capabilities, GPS & speed tracking.

These will be on the high end of pricing.

I have the Thinkware F770 Front and Rear but this would be out of the range your looking for but they do have some cheaper options where I purchased from

I recently got the 70mai (xiaomi licensed) camera 1944P, does wifi for easily offloading the videos to your phone, seems pretty good so far, only had it for a couple months.

Here's a sample video i got the other day, only saved it because that trike thing was neat. this one was only 1440, so make sure you pick the 1440 resolution

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Not many fit the requirement of dual cameras. Ended up finding this one, ordered 2 of them. 41.50$ each. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Question- How do most people wire these? Just go with constant power, and try to remember to turn it off when parking to avoid killing the battery? Seems like wiring to switched power source means it wouldn't be able to turn on and record when it senses a shock when it's parked.

I have been using this refurb Cobra from Visions since December and it works great as a dual channel. Sometimes it goes on sale for $150:

You will need some sort of battery protection unit in line.

I hardwired mine without battery protection but it has a kill switch. I drive daily so it's not an issue and parking mode doesn't seem to draw that much. But if I have to park it for longer or it get cold out, I hit the kill switch.

typically the ones with parking mode have a built in battery, or they're powered by both a constant and switched power so they know when to record when you're driving, the power they use in parking mode is minimal and typically wont kill the battery unless you leave them for a week or more.... there are issues with that method on newer cars though, some have battery meters that see the parasitic draw and shut it down to avoid draining the battery, which renders the camera useless.

Through the ceiling? Maybe your comment is explained by your pic, which I can't see as all pics from this site are blocked.

The way you wire anything on your windshield is generally to go up to the headliner, then across the front of the headliner to one of the A pillars, down the pillar and beside the dash into the footwell. From there you can pull through the firewall for power if your fuse box is under the hood like most. If you're running a rear view camera for this, then you can route along the lower trim to the rear.

its typically not that easy, there's often obstructions and dense foam blocks in the ceiling for insulation, its expecially difficult with a sunroof. Typically i find i have to remove all the upper trim pieces and run the wire down one side a couple inches in from the outer side of the roof liner.

the viofo dash cams are pretty good and dont break the bank they have one that is a dual channel. they are wedge designed which makes the camera very discrete.

    Sooooooo....
I managed to wire the rear cam to the front through the headliner... as i was detaching the fishhook with my knife(electric tape). It slipped & cut through the dam wire..
    FML. I ballsedup..

Any idea how to connect this? The rear camera on the other side has something that connects two different types of wires.
I looked at buying just the rear cam again as its so cheap. But none have the same connector..

    Any ideas?

I had a set that came with a cam like that. The mirror/screen part came smashed and I got a free replacement.
Not sure if I kept the parts for the first set... I'll have to go digging.
