    Toyota has it in everything but it’s not great especially in this season of dirty roads. Tried to run me into the car next to me on the way to Edmonton this weekend haha.
    thats what you get for going to Edmonton...

    Was thinking more about the "Advanced Driver Assist" features, and seems that Ford really restricts which models have it, F150, Lightning Navigator, and Mach-E only? Brutal. That system gets really good reviews, but sucks you can't get it in more models.

    Hyundai/Kia have it in more models, same with Toyota it seems. Would be handy as hell for anyone doing a lot of highway driving.
    blue cruise for ford only works on "mapped roads" and the last time i checked there were not many mapped in Western canada... i turned off my lane centering in f150

    For a highway car specifically going between Edmonton and Calgary: Probably a decked out Ram 2500 or maybe a Platinum F150. Comfy, big, high seating position, and won't attract too much attention.

    Could do something like a Cadillac Escalade as well, but only a matter of time before it gets nailed with hail.

    I drove a 2023 Corolla with adaptive cruise, lane keep, auto braking etc from Ft Lauderdale to Key West on Sunday and I fucking hated it.
    It is all trash. Even on a premium car in 2023... I am shocked at how little refinement there is on these types of systems.

    I've got adaptive cruise on the new car, and it frequently gets confused on long highway turns and suddenly starts braking for cars in the slow lane. Plus even with the distance adjustability reduced to the lowest setting, it is still slowing down way too soon as I come up on cars before I execute a pass.

    Similar story with emergency braking. I was recently on a road with a long corner bend, passing swiftly between cars stopped in a left turn lane and some slowing in the right... suddenly the dashboard lights up with emergency lights and the car slams on the brakes. The collision prevention system near caused a collision with the guy behind me.

    High beam assist is also pretty shit. Coming around a long left corner, the car couldn't see the semi in the oncoming lane and the high beams stayed on. I got a nice bright reminder not to rely on automatic systems from the semi for that one.

    The only thing that is sort of ok is the LCA warning... it makes an audible noise if I drift into another lane without a signaling.

    Prob has been mentioned before, but I drove the new long Escalade recently on a road trip out to Jasper and back. 6 people and gear. Drove beautifully. The driver assist and self driving was way better than the Tesla model 3 I rented in Vancouver (PTSD inducing).

    110kph = 1900rpm very quiet
    130kph = 2100rpm very quiet

    It basically encourages you to speed so you get home faster.

    It worked well in the Ioniq, went to Edmonton and back this weekend and HDA drove the entire distance without issue.

    There are some decent systems out there. Hyundai/Kia's latest system drives beautifully. Probably the most refined system out there short of SuperCruise (I have yet to try Supercruise but everyone I talked to said it's amazing). The Mercedes one is actually pretty good as well, I had tested it from Calgary to Edmonton and it drove without issues all the way up with only 1 disconnect (newly paved section with no lane markers at all). Changes lane by just tapping signal on it's own too.

    For high beam assist, the Toyota is not bad. Have yet to blind anyone from what I can see. The one I have on the Mercedes is phenomenal. It's the LED matrix headlights, so it's always bright for me, and just dark for opposing cars/cars in front. It's insane how bright everything looks at night now on the highway, and I struggle driving anything else. Signs lit up for miles. Meanwhile, I've been bitching about getting high beamed by Tesla's non stop, turns out the HBA is required to turn on cruise control/autopilot now a few software updates ago. And it's bad, so if you're not in a Tesla, you're randomly getting blinded. I had a Model X follow me the other day for 10 mins and non stop flashing high beams at me. Fuck Tesla.

    I need to borrow a truck with this and do some testing. The one road trip I was a passenger in, the truck did all the steering basically all the way from Calgary to Rimbey. I wonder if it has levels of "assist" based on the road being mapped or not?

    The ford auto high beam has yet to let me down… quicker to react than I am! No real reason to complain about their adaptive cruise either… I do have to give it some manual pedal while saying “get the fuck out of the left, you slow little bitch”… but I wouldn’t want an automated system to be that aggressive… it can’t see deer or bears to save its life though. Found that out on the previous one when yogi went looking for its picnic basket on the other side of the hwy

    I haven't had a chance to try out Hyundai/Kia systems yet, but given their dominance in the EV market, I can't say I am surprised it is pretty good

    Full agreement. Would definitely consider one of these as a mile muncher.

    Are you sure they weren't trying to warn you that there was a murderer hiding in your backseat? Isn't that how the urban legend goes?

    I found one issue last winter in the f150 , I was coming home from Canmore last winter in heavy snow , and it did not see the cars infront of me and I kept brighting people I turned it off for the drive home. I often get flashed with the adaptive light on…. But it works perfectly …when I meet other f150 on the road I see it working on those trucks as well.
