exactly, if this was the intent the lines would be like this

    Attachment 86937
That image is much more clear.

As per the original illustration, blue path is correct. There are two lanes before (south of) the intersection and two lanes after, with a third lane to the far left (west) effectively coming from the traffic turning / merging left from east bound 16th.

Did that route daily for a while during afternoon rush hour, and if nobody did the red line, the traffic would be insane. I suspect red path is illegal, and for sure leaves room for issues, but during rush hour, it's super common. Also, using that remp to bypass stopped traffic on Deerfoot is also common. Keep your head up, don't be a baby, and we'll all get through this fine.

PM rush hour, both lanes are used as through lanes by people getting a bit ahead of the mess on Deerfoot. That said, I have seen people make a left from the RH lane.
Personally I stick in the LH lane if I'm making left turn, to cut across from the RH just seems to be asking for trouble.
    Will fuck off, again.

You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Think it’s fair to say that if you’re at that intersection, you should be assuming they’re going to take red and you’re taking the furthest left one. The odds of them going straight are extremely remote unless they took the wrong off ramp off deerfoot
Except during rush hour when everyone takes the blue path as a faster route than staying on deerfoot.

This shitty design is exactly why this is the most dangerous intersection in Calgary with the highest number of accidents. It’s #2 in Canada as well.

probably a good idea. However, I hope they don't as I use the intersection to skirt a lot of rush hour traffic going northbound in the afternoon.

Had never thought about using it to skirt traffic. Did it yesterday. Brilliant!

Im probably ahead of most by an hour or two, but it still helps. I have added it to my deerfoot slalom routing!

Alright, looks like the consensus is the blue path even though it may not make sense. Just looked at street view and the lanes and signs are clearly marked:

I just need to justify getting angry when people on right take the red path and don't treat it like a lane change.

It all makes sense. It’s just not what some people want it to be.

And there's always people who will game the system to get where they want to go a little faster.

The real sneaky ones pull the same thing at 32nd Avenue although there it is quite illegal per the existing signage.

In the afternoon, its common for traffic to go straight through the intersection to later take the 32 ave turn and bypass the crawling northbound traffic on deerfoot.

Edit: should have read the second page before posting. Other people know the sneak too..

So SB in the AM rush, how many do the same over the top short cut as can be done in the NB PM rush? I don't because my SB travels when using Deerfoot in the AM are usually taking me past 17th Ave so getting into the LH lane quickly after getting on at 32nd or McKnight is paramount.
