Not to harp on Hamonic, but that 2nd pairing is miles better with Rasmus Andersson. That guy is such a gamer and I'm glad Flames were able to extend him on such a great contract. With Gio's age starting to show, Rasmus is a going to be a good replacement as a leader of the defense corp.

Andersson has been crushing it! Definitely standing out offensively and defensively and from what I've heard Valimaki is even better. Going to be a good looking group next year.

Johnny is no playoff hockey contributor. We should trade him and quit pretending this team has any chance to go far in the playoffs in their current form.

Trade him for picks if we can. We currently have a 1st round, 16th overall and a 2nd round 49th overall which is OK considering we are in the playoffs. Not sure how deep this years draft is after #1 and #2.

Otherwise, just a quick look at 2020 UFA's. Taylor Hall, Carl Soderburg, Tyler Toffli would fit right in. In 2019/20 Johnny had 18g and 40a so he's not irreplaceable with those production numbers.

We have tons of cap space for 2021 so lots of options

Getting picks for Johnny would be good if they're top 5 and ready to jump into the lineup, otherwise you're admitting that your window to win now is gone and just waiting for the draft picks to pan out.

Soderberg is going to be 35 and Toffoli is a decent complimentary player and will probably be asking for at least $5M on the open market. If you can get Taylor Hall, that would be great, but he will likely cost $9M+ as a UFA and I can guarantee you will see the same deficiencies in his game as you would Johnny's. It will probably be more magnified since he'll be the highest paid player on the team by a good margin. I really hope Treliving has learned his lesson on chasing UFAs.

You still need that cap space to round out your defense. As you can see from the Oilers and Leafs early exit, you can't just have a top-heavy lineup without a decent defensive group to keep the pucks out of the net.

All I'm saying is before suggesting we trade Johnny in the start of the playoffs after only 1 game, let's see what he brings the rest of the way. He's on a very friendly contract for the next two years, so there's no rush in running him out of town.
