Riding in Oaxaca, Mexico was absolutely incredible. 10/10 would recommend.

Well… I finally did it.
Have been keeping an eye on the 2021 stock of mondrakers at stoked Canada since the GF grabbed her Foxy R carbon. Have rode her bike here and there and although the reviews are mixed on riding position, I like it. Lots of bitching about climbing but I’m clearing things on it I can’t clear on a god damn XC bike.
Watched the carbon R drop to a steal of a price… (they actually sent the GF a refund for the price drop even though it was months later), then the larges sold out. Boo. Super foxy r carbon then went on sale, rather nice build with the gx group and fox 38… but it’s yellow and deep down I’m that shallow, but was still pretty sure I wanted it. Listed my old thunderbolt and it sold for some really decent money for it being the dead of winter.
So now I’m bikeless… still tossing around the idea of building a high pivot, but the imaginary build price just never gets under $9k. The mondrakers are slowly selling out… getting a little worried
Then… then I see it. The foxy carbon RR… ohlins everything, gx group, dt Swiss 1700 series wheels and 350 hubs… $5,500, no duty, free shipping from Kelowna, build kills anything else in that range even if duty had to be paid. $2100 off the already really decently converted CAD price ($6300euro is msrp). Done. Ordered, should be here by this weekend.
Pretty excited! I’m probably gonna toss some stubs on it and start riding right away. Have some on the GF’s bike and fish creek is actually pretty damn fun in the winter
Any recommendations on where to take my bike to get new rims and tires in Calgary?
Bike showed up yesterday morning, wrapped it last night (hard to tell but it’s matte and gloss so that was fun), the new pnw loam pedals are finally stocked locally, those showed up today, so took it for a quick shakedown with some ice spiker evo's I scored off marketplace for cheap. Feels great… if anyone is wondering about fish creek conditions, studs are yes… double down is sketchy, rest seems okay, trees are keeping things pretty rideable. Canyonero has some flooding near the bottom that’s iced over, it’s not too bad as it’s in the flats.
Theses pedals also feel great, super good value
^^ Damn! great looking rig!
Thanks! They are just stunning frames. Insane how they’re not instantly sold out given the current bike supply situation. Works for me though, can keep twinning with the GF on the trailsThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We went from a pair of old Rocky Mountains to these. Still not sure if my riding will improve, or I will just crash at way higher speeds now haha
Usually the latter, in my case anyways lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Beyond ride this summer.
What kind of wheels are you looking for and what's your budget? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Should have my new frame here next week.
How are the Ohlins?
Loved them on my car.
Been watching videos on adding spacers into your suspension. Anyone done this? Seems like it's all personal preference.
Everything is a little too smooth with the snow to really say… but the one thing I can say is… no volume spacers! Ramp is controlled with a secondary air chamberThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
When you say wrapped do you mean vinyl wrapped the frame??
If so where from? My wife has tons of vinyl to choose from, just wondering if I should order a kit.
I got my kits from ride wrap they're a bc company. Quick shipping but it was a pain to install with no bubbles.
If you're a good diy'er then go for it.
Maybe not a full bike wrap is easier tho.
Stone shield… but yeah. Kits are the way to go, install wet to minimize bubblesThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I wrapped part of my bike. Got some bubbles, but it’s not terrible. Was hoping a kit would be better.
I just got mine and my wife's wrapped at Inside Line. I hate that finnicky shit.
PSA get all your bike maintenance done right now, not in March/April. No appointment needed to get oil and seals changed on forks and shocks right now.

Also, inside line is awesome. Great people there!
Anyone know much about Cube bikes? Had a deposit on a jekyll that was supposed to arrive august but now theyre saying next april so i cant wait. Bow just got a shipment of Cubes in and they have the Stereo 150 race which looks nice. I was also thinking about a canyon spectral mullet but i found some reviews of issues with them.

The component spec looks really good for the $, but unfortunately the geometry is dated, so I would be out. I would definitely take a spectral 29 cf 7 over a stereo. Mullets are a bit of a fad IMO.
Best deal out there right nowThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
