Did the biggest ride yet this weekend on the Ebike. Went out to Panorama and did the Hopeful trail which involves about 1500m of climbing from the base of the ski hill, if you go during the summer operating hours you can take the lift up which saves a huge portion of the climb. The climb was mostly on the gravel road/cat tracks so its was easy but it was steep in some areas and because of how long it was we had to turn the power down or else we wouldnt have made it all the way. The views from up top were insane and the trail itself was fun and you can get into the bike park and ride the Pano trails down the last 1/3 of it even though the park itself is closed for mtb. Rode it with some buddies who have a place out there and supposedly pano doesnt care if you do that, YMMV lol

How long was it roughly for the climb and it was in eco?
I did hopeful two years ago on my old Stumpy Evo from the base... first and last :P

I just spent a day 'shuttling' Swansea and as I decided to do my last run with the 'boys', there ended up being no upbound traffic to drive me back to the top and I ended up having to climb back the lower/upper trail. Lets put it this way, with about maybe 1/5th if not 1/4th of the riders out there riding e-bikes, and now all makes sense to me.

IF my primary riding goal is to ride lapts at the park, or just to climb to get down places like Moose and Swansea most, if not all of the time, then 100% I would e-bike.
Not ONLY do you save your legs, they're faster up, get more laps in, and I think most importantly is that you save the wear and tear on your vehicle, not having to drive up/down that washboarded crap and getting into fist fights with old man 'hikers' who won't give way when driving their corollas back down.

But in all seriousness, if you don't have a decent 4x4 with clearance, that you don't mind beating up, get an e-bike. My F-150 is old, so no problems. Still my transmission got as hot as 104c by the time it made it to the top, my friend was hard on the damned thing driving down that he bent my one of my running boards and claimed my brakes faded to where he could barely stop.

Honestly, e-bikes even make sense economically, and are just marginally more expensive than normal bikes in the grand scheme of things.

    lol quoting myself...

    went to cranked yesterday.

Giant Reign-E 2 was on sale for $5400 bucks with a 540w motor...
    crazy.

Modern adjustable geo 63.7 HTA, 77.8 STA
SLX build w/ SLX 4 pots brakes 203 rotors (but GX is available)
Zeb select (but upgradable to charge 3 damper) fork and oddly a DPX-2 matched shock (I believe 170/163)

only things are that they are Bontrager build for wheels and dropper, but I heard the dropper is good and the hub is good... but I'd definately upgrade one I destroyed the wheels.

250wh battery on a bike with 85nm has got to be useless for range unless you're doing pathways. Normally batteries that low are for mid assist with way lower nm motors.

WAT… watts \= to watt hours

    Most class 1 e-bikes are a 250w motor with a 350+ Wh battery

Best I can tell this one in particular is a 250w, with 85Nm of torque and a 625Wh battery… which is pretty strong, but still not as insane as Rocky Mountain with their 108Nm motor and 722Wh battery

Ahh, im still learning lol Ive got the Bosch gen 4 which has 85nm and in turbo that thing is already insane, i dont even want to try what a 108nm would be like

Family guy is also a good flow-y trail that isn’t very techy. 7-27 is awesome but this year it is in kinda rough shape with brake bumps and general wear and tear. Needs some love from the amount of traffic it gets.

Also. Merlin at WBC. Mandatory ride, be so easy with E.
FYI: 7-27 dig night on Monday!

Not sure what I was thinking but I fooled myself into thinking WB wouldnt be too bad yesterday because the webcam at 1:00 looked dry and fairly busy Headed out and I started noticing bikes covered in mud heading back into Calgary on the 22. Did the Merlin loop and she was muddy the second you left the lot. The ride up wasnt too bad other than a couple areas where it was super sloppy but coming down was basically a slip and slide because I had minimal grip and braking power from the mud. I even rocked the FF just in case. There were tons of riders out too. My personal best is 43mins from the lot and still managed 50mins. Took a good hour to hose off the bike and gear in the yard before i could throw it in the washer.

    That looks awful

Do a lot of you guys wear ankle braces (preventative)? Apparently a lot of the pro riders do. I wish I had. I will in the future that's for sure!

Adidas has 50% off some 510s right now… looks like anything that’s already on sale. Including freerider pros that are $190 marked down to $150… so $75.

They even have the freerider pro mids with d3O ankle padding

uh... oh wow. here I thought a ruptured patella that I had was an awful injury. I've had alot of ankle injuries, but none that compound like that... (thank you soccer)

I know of a couple guys who I see at the jump park and b-line who wear active ankles as 'preventive' measures.

I would recommend it lol. I was riding something steep and rocky and a bit wet and lost the front wheel. Tried to jump over the handlebars and run it out but since it was steep it was a long fall and I landed wrong on the rocks and snapped my foot 'in'.

Tore the outside ligaments and needed to have them surgically reattached. There was a minor break but it was mostly soft tissue. Hopefully get to try to start walking in a couple weeks.
