well maybe so. I guess I need to start thinking about it like car insurance

The wife just dropped 15k at Calgary Cycle and props to them, they've honoured for a second time the amazing deal they gave me the first time around.

An identical 2020 Yeti SB130 CLR and a '21 SC 5010 for the mrs. She of course picked the most matchy-matchy turquoise colorway on the 5010 (actually that was all that was in stock). So we are a pair of turqouise-beyond-baller inrich-fully-loaded GX/XT level bikes.

Yes we are talking VISA credit card "Purchase Security" new but I have no clarity from that insurer yet (and dont expect any for months) in terms of their payout. They have this bolded in the claims form:

*Purchase Security protection is secondary to any other insurance, such as Homeowners, Tenant, or Business insurance. If a Cardholder has such insurance, then the maximum amount covered under Purchase Security will be the amount of any applicable deductible. Cardholders with other insurance have a choice in reporting a claim to that insurance company; however, it is important to note that regardless of the decision to submit a claim or not, the amount paid under Purchase Security will be subject to the amount stated above.
BUT the terms of the cardholder agreement just talk in generalities of "excess expenses":
This insurance is classified as supplemental, in that it covers expenses in excess of expenses payable by any other insurance plan . For example, if you are covered under homeowners insurance, this insurance will cover the deductible only
In my interpretation- excess expenses aren't limited to my primary provider's liability cap (i.e. if I spend $8k on a bike and can only recoup $1k after deductible from my primary provider, my excess expense is $7k.). Not all Canadian Bank credit card terms language is as permissive as my card, so I'll be pursuing this path for a satisfactory resolution.

You're not beyond baller unless you reside in Aspen.

You're just a pleb like the rest of us.

Edit: Congrats on the new whips! shitty circumstances though.

    I forgot about that clause.

Is there less crime in these Bougie suburbs? Maybe I should move, might end up cheaper in the long run.

    Nah, crime everywhere.
I’m in the burbs now and car prowlings and bike thefts are part of life.

More drugs in the burbs too.

TD caps their liability at $2k a bike. I was with Intact and Touchstone but left after a poor claim experience.

Scheduling anything with TD ends up pretty expensive, so I'll be contacting some bike-specific providers. Anyone have experience with one, any recommendations?
If you have the "platinum coverage" from TD they up the value to 6k (or 6.5k - can't remember) per bike.
A few years back, one of my bicycles was stolen from my condo storage locker, and TD covered full replacement value (4.7k).
The cost adder to go to platinum was low, something like 80/yr. Listing the bikes as individual scheduled items was stupid expensive...300ea or so as someone else had mentioned.

Petty crime is pretty bad in Aspen because it's near the train line. There's way worse neighborhoods obviously (inner city, NE), but according to the CPS crime map, Aspen has surprisingly high crime despite being located so far away from most things.

After reading this thread, I asked my insurance broker what coverage would be for my quiver.

$450/year and it covers all my bikes.

Having 2 Full Sus, 2 Carbon Road, 1 wife bike, 1 20" upgraded kid bike, 1 spawn and 1 20 yr old canondale beater bike seems like a good deal.

    I think I have a bike problem.

Where are you planning to ride? I’d hazard a guess and say you’d most likely be better off with a hard tail in the price range

Maybe email a few of the bike rental shops in canmore and see if they're even going to bother selling their rigs this year.. an extra 500 got me into a Trance 3, which is a lot of bike for the money
