The unfortunate reality is that you're getting none of these bikes this year. Everyone wants a bike, everything is sold out, and used bikes are being sold at extortion prices. Figure out what bike you like, talk to a bike shop and get it ordered for next year.

A gravel bike is likely what you want and for $1,500 you can get a killer one. I just got one this year and this thing is the ultimate quiver killer.

As mentioned, going new is tough right now as there is basically no stock. I picked up a a used 2021 Marlin 7 for myself a few months ago on kijiji for $700. The guy even included a dropper post with it, which is a great addition to the bike. Took a few weeks of keeping an eye on kijiji to find it as a good bike will be sold in under 30 mins. I snagged mine and the girlfriend's bikes with in 15-20 minutes of being posted and still wasn't the first to message the seller.

While doing research, look up specs on bike and compare them on 99spokes.com. You can compare multiple bikes and it will show their specs on one page. Easier than going to manufacturer's websites. Find bikes that fit your bill and compare them to previous year's models to see what's missing and if you can live with out those features.

If all you're riding is paved and gravel pathways, maybe look into a hybrid bike. Not sure what everyone on beyond thinks of them, but I went out with some friends that all had hybrids and I had to work to keep up with them on the straights. 1x10 drivetrain and the higher rolling resistance from the tires wasn't helping.

Lucky you. 2021 Marlin 7 looks awesome, especially with the shimano Deore 1x10 drivetrain vs. 2020 model or lower Marlin models. Seems to check a lot of boxes so far!
Also the hydraulic lockout feature is neat on the Marlin 6 and 7.

Thanks for the insights, will keep all of these things in mind.
Didn't even know what a front derailleur even was until I looked it up. Problem with used is I'm not too sure what to look for and if it's good value so it's difficult to search.

I feel like dj_rice buying his Infiniti right now. Just trying to do more research about it through Google and here before I purchase.
How tall are you? I’m always casually browsing so can keep an eye out for potential options

Gravel bike would probably be a good fit, hard tail might be more comfortable if you get into the more techy stuff in fish creek or something... this one looks half decent if it fits and is up to date on maintenance

You got insanely lucky on that bike. you could sell that for full price in less than a couple hours i bet. If you're diligent and have the time to check literally every 10 minutes you might get a guy whos not aware of the madness and prices it fairly but most arent. Im trying to find a 4 bike platform rack and found a guy listing a thule XT 2+2 for $500, ad was only 30 mins old and i was the 5th buyer lol

This could be a problem as well, lol. Even if I wanted to execute on some of dimi's suggestions, I don't think they have them in stock. I may start calling around.
Its worth a shot for sure to call around but at this stage i wouldnt be too hopeful on a new 21 model. Do the research now on what you want for 2022 and go put a deposit on it soon or else by july/august you could very well be SOL.

When I called around shops seem to think selection will ease up into July. So unless I am super picky, I think I will be able to get something decent shortly.

Thats surprising to hear, i wouldve guessed most 21 models are mostly sold or pre sold. I cant see the demand dying down in july though so maybe see if you can find out whats coming in and pre buy it

Nice! We sold my gf's 2017 trek fuel 5 for $3000 within 10 minutes of posting last year. That's what we paid for it in 2016 but it did have upgraded brakes and a cheap dropper.

Lucky she got a megatower riiiight at the end of 2019 before the insanity began.

^Thats good to know since I'm looking to list my 2015 Fuel Ex8 in the next couple of days. I was very lucky to find availability on a webshop for a Norco Optic at a shop near Edmonton a couple months ago. Snagged it immediately.
