Totally a derail.. A girl I dated in high school had a full length Olympic swimming pool built just for her in the basement of her house in Springbank.

When I met her in grade 12 she was on the Olympic development team and was far above her peers. She was insanely talented and would have easily made it to the olympics but was pressured too much by her parents and we just partied our faces off and she threw it all the way. Part of me feels guilty, but I don’t think it’s what she ever wanted to begin with. Anyways she has two kids now and is in a halfway home. I think about her often and feel horrible but life has choices… right?

    Anyways.. back to sweet garages

Basically what I take from this is if you have an indoor pool, your daughter will date Kelly… and die

Indoor pool is an enormous selling feature for our family. Worth it’s weight in gold
Ditto - when/if we return permanently to Calgary, possibly to Kelowna as well in the nearish future, indoor pool is 100% at the top of the list for a lot of reasons. I grew up having one for many years. Hard to find in Calgary, a couple years back Jordan found several for us to peruse though, and all of them were homes I'd have liked. Worth the pita IMO.

I’d love an indoor pool but that’s way above the wife and my pay grade.

I've heard a few too many horror stories to fuck with an indoor pool... I'd also worry about the novelty wearing off pretty quickly with the kids and then be just left with a big expense and liability.

We were fortunate I guess, our home had a natatorium quality indoor pool built into it by the first owner/builder (an uncle who specialized in building pools both in and out), and there weren't any major problems that I can recall at least.

The home in Bearspaw above in this thread tics almost every box for us. When I first moved to Calgary in 94 I lived in Bearspaw for the first 4 years, and despite the drive into the city being a pita sometimes, I loved it out there. The only thing that Bearspaw home doesn't have is a dedicated home theater room, but that is what's lost it's appeal and novelty for me, not having a pool. I can't even remember the last time we had used ours in our last home in Calgary. Now with large OLED/etc screens being fairly inexpensive, and some great sound options too...

Dedicated theatre room isn’t such a big deal if you buy tv’s and not projectors haha

^ There's no time in the history of having a door in a house where that style slab was nice. Fuck I hate them so much. Big looking garage though.

What would you like to see? Door flush with slab? Higher up with a 2 step staircase?

I'd buy a home near a swimming pool before I put one in my house

But a theater room. Fuck I'd get some good use out of that.

Part of that price includes paying for and maintaining the secret tunnel to downtown for the 20 minute commute.

This place ticks all my boxes... even with the master bathroom needing some updates.
