    I can and have.
The pendulum has swung too far. Merely 30 years ago kids were not in car seats and the cars had only lap belts. The consequences are massive while the risk is miniscule. Risk management.

As for the straps argument... They are seatbelt material. I bet my life every day in my 2005 car? My 2011 SUV?
I'd have to go digging, but I recall reading a summary of the data from the NTSB (maybe the IIHS?) that showed that the injury rates for any child over 2 that is in a car seat vs in a regular old 3-point belt was within the margin of error.

I guess all competition straps expire too solely for profit reasons.

    No.
    It's risk management.
The consequences remain massive while the probability is really high because race car.

*I meant to say "probability" earlier as well.

    Occam's razor.

Competition straps wear at a faster rate than regular car straps (which apparently don't have an expiry).

    or

Companies prefer to not have their products last forever.

Any "safety" product, particularly one for a child, is subject so huge liability risks, so instead of needing to prove that they DO degrade over a long time, merely need to prove that the product DOESN'T degrade over a much shorter time.

I blame the lawyers. And Rachael Notley.

Not buying / selling used carseat... but disposing of old carseats...

Can it go into the black bins?

Quick google search suggests bringing to one of the landfill sites and disposal fee applies. Or private recyclers... fee also applies.

I don't know if it SHOULD, but I know it can.

Anything that fits in a black bin, goes in the black bin. I'm not paying $25 min. charge at a landfill.

I have a broken 30" masterbuilt electric smoker that I'm going to need to dismantle to fit in that bin. It's an awkward shape, but too strong to squish. It'll happen when i have some agrression I need to work out.
I fit a carpet cleaning machine in there recently too. It was very theraputic dismantling that bitch.

We put one next to our black bin and they took it away.

I think the only time they won't, is if a baby is still in the seat.

I put your odds at fifty-fifty. So really. No harm trying.

I've always given my used car seats away rather than sell them. Either to a family friend, and twice to a beyonder. If you know / trust the history and the seats are not past expiry.
