Growing your retirement nest-egg safely became even more elusive this week after the Bank of Canada reiterated its pledge to keep its trend-setting interest rate near zero for years to come.
Saving is for chumps. Borrow borrow borrow baby.

Motherfucker I’ve been saving and sitting on money forever when I could have been driving a Honda Fit.

Interest rates cause consumption to a certain point. Below that it reduces consumption as people feel the need to save more as their investments get no yield. It's the great error of MMT.

Other failures of the dreamers who think that MMT will work:

    1. wealth "exists", it isn't created by those with incentives
    2. money is the same as capital or value. It is not.

We don't live in a society or time that values saving so the effect may be lessening.

I'm starting to think that saving and investing are both foolish. Spend your money, live your best life, die broke.

The rates have been too low for too long and at this point their contribution is negative rather than positive.
