I am assuming this will continue to gain strength and someday soon there will be no more real beef. Only Beyond meat.

Outside of any political/climate ideals, I find I just eat less red meat these days. Rarely eat steaks or roasts, occasionally this summer I had a burger whether at home or at a restaurant. Overall I find it less appealling as time goes on.

Unless someone offered me deer/elk/moose jerky...no self control then.

I'm gonna order a beyond salad next time. It's simulated vegetable made of beef. You can get it on a bun or as a steak. It tastes like vegetable. Nah it tastes better.

No. But I also don't mind fast food burgers all replaced by Beyond/Impossible products. They are shit beef anyway.

I think for fast food, they are chasing margin and fake beef definitely will give them way more margin than real beef.

Fake meat also harder to spoil, probably why Timmy's now has burgers too.

Beside climate change conspiracy... it's really just capitalism at work here. Just look at KFC, they now have 5800 stores in China vs 4200 in US. If consumption rate is the same, where in the world is 2x more chickens coming from?

EDIT: I guess Africa is on the rise as well for KFC.

I eat less beef because of how expensive it is. Meat for one meal is going to be more than $20 if it's beef, and under $10 if it's pork. I really LIKE beef though, so I don't see cutting it to zero.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I eat so much wild game i could careless about Beef. If the COC would let me have a chicken coup i would be set year over year for meat/eggs etc. I really don't see this gaining enough momentum to adversely affect our cattle industry.

That being said my cheat day meal is often an Angus Burger from McD's.

Just get the coup! Friends of ours have one in the city and they have more eggs than they know what to do with. I think they have 5 chickens.

I laughed at myself when they told me this, but chickens literally have a pecking order, where they will fight to achieve alpha status...by pecking.

    Back to cows.

    This is great.

Hopefully it will make it easier for me to identify and avoid any establishment that is run by someone stupid enough to ban beef.

Does it have an impact on climate? Maybe. Is it nutritious and delicious? Definitely.

Regardless, consuming whatever animal I want to is a benefit of being at the top of the food chain, and I'll continue to do so until the day I die (or have no teeth with which to munch on a steak).

Holy fuck I am amazed at the stupidity of people in todays world. If I went to school there I would slaughter my own cow right in the middle of campus just out of spite!

Our family is moving away from meats in general, towards chicken and fish. Love a good charcoaled steak though!

The concrete industry releases a hell of a lot more greenhouse gas than all of farming. Ban concrete!

I mostly eat birds, I've found ground turkey to be a fine substitute for ground beef. I'd miss the occasional steak at a restaurant but wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Don't get me wrong... I eat far less meat these days than ever before, but that is my choice. A choice is a whole lot different than a ban.

You'll never get public buy-in on banning* meat. I can see alternatives driving down cost and increasing in convenience being a major driver, but that type of dietary change needs to be a choice if you ever expect buy-in.

    EDIT: *replaced "reducing" with banning.

Has meat consumption per capita not been going down in North America? (I though I saw a stat on this once) . It would seem that people are already making choices to move away on their own.

Yes. The point I was making that ramming a ban down people's throats would never go over well.
