I guess I’ll start to bow out of the competition for best lawn on beyond. It’s all yours 89coupe and Nismo!

Hillbilly neighbor is going for a natural landscape of weeds, including quack grass. Which is rolling into our yard now. Anything crazy I can get to spray quack grass? Might also cut out the grass along the fence to help hold it at bay.

Also our vole damage is finally starting to fill back in. Fucking devil rodents.
Spray your neighbors lawn with weed killer as well.
    I like neat cars.

Do you guys dethatch/remove dead grass pretty regularly? Any recommendations for a thatching rake?

I call a guy, now that I'm old. I saw my neighbor using an electric dethatcher, looked pretty small and light, and appeared to be doing a good job.
    Saw one at Canadian tire.

I used to do that. Take off blade, install dethatcher , dethatch.
Sharpen blade, change oil, reinstall blade go over lawn again.

Dedicated dethatcher does work better than the mower blade ones. Might be on the margin.

I borrow A cheap electric one from my uncle every year in exchange for a 6 pack.

I have a pretty small yard so was thinking about getting something like this

    https://www.amazon.ca/Groundskeeper-.../dp/B07B4MQNHF

Didn't know you could get a blade for a mower that would do it. What blade are you guys using? I have a 16 inch Kobalt mower (battery powered). Are the blades pretty universal?

Yes pretty much universal, they have a couple different length ones, like mine, I have a 21" mowing deck but the blade is a 16". Bought mine at Canadian Tire. They even sell a 6 in 1 version where it has sharpened blades on it so you can mow your lawn and then de-thatch no need to change blade

What you need below and what I bought
    https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/u...7131p.html#srp

    6 in 1 Blade

If you like the manual labour and arm workout, by all means, rake method is legit but getting a dedicated dethatcher or blade, gets the job done so much quicker.

I have a small lawn, use this dethatch rake https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/y...5556p.html#srp works great. I use it twice every spring to rake up all the dead stuff. Goes on sale at CT once in awhile.

Scrape out the dead grass, add some soil and seed, keep moist.

At Pisces they have this stone that you leave in the water bowl of your pet and supposedly it does something to change the urine so that it doesnt turn your lawn yellow anymore.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Measure the square footage of your lawn. Grab a bag similar to this: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/s...2292p.html#srp

If the bag is for 4000sqft coverage and your lawn is 2k, obviously your going to load roughly half the bag into your hopper. Follow the spreader settings on the bag, or if you have a different brand spreader start out with a lower setting. It’s better to have a low setting on your spreader and make more passes then to have too much come out and burn the lawn with too much fertilizer in one spot. Fertilizer when the weather is mild, avoid doing it on hot days. Water it in for half and hour.

It’s really not that complicated. Get the scotts spreader that had different settings, read the bag about what setting to use and have at it. Don’t overlap or dump a bunch in one spot. Once it’s fertilized throw the sprinkler on 2 nights in a row for half an hour or fertilize before it rains. Done. Profit.
