I've heard this so many times from so many people that it simply has to be true. But... It seems so counter intuitive to me. I would think 15min per hour for several hours would be best but I've never heard anyone recommend that.
You need to get the water deep down so that the roots have a reason to bother growing deep.

Soil can hold a ridiculous amount of water, 15 minutes will barely do anything when it's dry.

I guess. But how dry can it be when it got a blast only 45 min earlier? You know what I'm saying?

How long do you set it to water for? and # of times per week?
I'm watering each zone for 45 minutes, every third day. Sometimes I'll bump it up to every second day when it's really hot.

So technically wouldn't it be better to water in the evening so water stays there overnight before it gets hot the next day?

But then I see people have talked about lawn diseases from water droplets sticking around too long.

Boy you can really get deep in the rabbit hole on lawn care some times.

Watering at night give you lots of mushrooms that's for sure. You dont want the water to stick around on the surface for a long time, you want/need to get it deep to the roots.

More likely to get mushrooms if you water heavily at night. Too much moisture retention overnight. A light sprinkle might not be bad in the heat of a dry summer though.

Re watering: I always go with a 30 min soak/zone, twice a week, maybe 3x per week if temps are 26-30+ for a week or two.

I ordered a Tenacity bundle through Seedworld. It's on the Fedex truck today. Excited.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I was doing the same and because of this thread looked up the best time. Apparently it's between 6am and 10am, so I changed my schedule.

Yes. Get a timer, water at dawn.

With all that said I pretty much only ever water at night. Have the odd mushroom outbreak but my lawn (outside of the dog damage) is in relatively good shape.

I dunno, Calgary's air is so dry I don't think it matters here.

Man I had a weird little patch of mushrooms that wouldn’t quit at my last place. Makes me think the builder curried something under my patio slab that was feeding them.

Depends on your soil. If I water at night, I get shitloads of mushroom rings. I also have (had) tons of trees in both front and back yards though, so they have a lot of food to grow. In a newer development with hard, rocky soil I could see it not being as much of an issue.

I remember mine looking a lot better last summer as well.

I fertilized Monday before the rain and hoping it fills in soon…

    Patience.

Mine is the same way. Give it a couple weeks, this rain will help.

Thinking about removing the grass on the other side of my fence because every spring/summer it just becomes a dandelion breeding ground. Or has anyone found some dandelion herbicide that works? I sprayed the whole front and side with Killex 2 weeks ago, and pulled maybe 50 dandelions out yesterday.
