2 weeks ago I modified a new dethatching blade to fit my Ego mower. Had to cut off the tips of the blade (too big), and hone out the washer it came with to fit the non-standard EGO shaft.
Worked fine. Filled 8 bags with dead grass.

    Fertilized right after.

Grass today. It could use a mow. I have not started watering yet.

    looking good.

Since moving back to Calgary last summer I have a lawn in need of some TLC.

Previous owners were the no fertilizer or chemical type so have already overseeded and thrown down some fertilizer this year. Wish me luck!

What kind of seeds did you throw down? If it was generic Scotts stuff, it was probably mostly Annual Rye, which only lasts one season. Also, you probably don't need to be watering yet. It depends on your lawn, but both my front and rear are still pretty moist, and not from the art room.
Fuck maybe that’s what it is. That’s depressing lol.

We redid our whole yard last year and put new sod down. The front came back nice and lush but the back where the kids were playing in the snow all winter has quite a few brown spots. Its going to take some loving to get brought back. I did a fall fertilizer but it didn't seem to do much in the back.

Can you send me a link to the blade you bought/how it was modified? I think we have the same mower or at least the same sized Ego.

    I got this: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/p...cher+blade#srp
It was too wide to fit within my mower deck, so I used a cut off wheel to trim ~1/2 of each end of the blade so it'd fit in the mower deck.
Btw, they have a smaller blade that'd likely fit without cutting, but I wanted maximum width. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/p...cher+blade#srp

The blade comes with a variety of washers and adapters for various mowers. None of them worked with my Ego shaft, so I took one of the washers that was slightly to small/tight to fit on the Ego shaft. I put it in my vice and used a file to enlarge the size of the hole in the washer until it fit on my Ego mower shaft. I've said shaft enough now.

If you're in the SE, you can come and borrow the blade if you want. PM me.

Most seed mixes are a combination of annual and perennial. Just keep seeding with the same mixture and after a few years the perennials will be dominant.

I had a similar problem and switched seeds to find something better. Ive ended up with a large spot in the middle of the lawn now that's a different shade of green than the rest because of it.

It's been slowly taking over the rest of the yard, and almost looks like camouflage in some places lol

Did you happen to pile a ton of snow there? Use salt on the sidewalk much?

That almost looks more like salt kill to me?

You can buy better seed that's 0 percent annual. Ideally it's some portion fescue.

So what’s everyone’s favourite lawn equipment family these days?

My stuff is in dire need of retirement so considering a whole new swath of equipment and want it all on the same battery system.

I love Milwaukee but I can’t justify a 1200 mower for my lawn so that family is out.

What’s the right way to go? Ego? Costco has a big bundle of green works?

Need a mower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer. Cant seem to find any battery powered leaf vaccums which sucks. Thinking one of those power head systems with the brush would be nice for stubborn walked on snow in the winter.

I went with EGO Lawnmower and Blower.
    Really happy with it.
Bought them about 3 Years ago and Zero issues so far.

When it comes time for me, I’ll likely be going Greenworks from Costco. I’ve heard good things about ego, but a mower with a plastic body just doesn’t do it for me.

Hedge trimmer I went and got a makita one since that’s my power tool ecosystem.

Yea I’m not a yard tool snob by any means. I’m using a dogs breakfast of corded and uncorked black and decker stuff right now.

I just want one system that does it all and I want it to be completely cordless. If I can pick it all up for under $1500 during. Father’s Day sale here. Even better.

For context, my mower needs are very light. Like I wouldn’t even bother with a self propelled mower for my lawn.

The Costco Greenworks bundle is what I have. I'm not happy with the non self propelled mower as it's only 1 battery. The blower and trimmer in the bundle is fine.

They have the 2 battery self propelled mower on sale for $599 right now.

    it's only 1 battery.
How much lawn do you have? I can get 2-3 mows, and some trimmer action with one 4ah battery on about 1500sq.ft of grass. At least when it's dry anyway.
