Yeah it's from salt for sure.

Sheep manure is cheap and helps provide more nutrients where you're trying to reseed. Canadian Tire has it for like $4/bag

    You lawn guys. Wasting time.
I'm just doing enough so I don't get bylaw on me.
Will Green spray paint work on the top soil too?

Where do you buy the contractor mix from? I've seen reference to Home Depot but didn't see any yesterday on the shelves and the staff were not overly helpful

For people who don't want to use weed killer I suppose the thing to do is to get the lawn thick and healthy by watering, seeding, fertilizing etc. And said people don't want to use the usual lawn fertilizer so hen/sheep manure will do?

I've been using Garden Club grass seed from Ctire https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/g...&rq=grass+seed for years and it seems to work great. Just did a patch two/three weeks ago in my back yard with some fresh soil and it already good and thick, mowed it today.

Ok so setup the oto, initial setup is easy. Setting up the zone was a little clunky just because the controls were confusing but I got it figured out lol. Seems cool, you can demo the zone and see where it will water. It wants to water 3 mornings a week at 6am, but I might bump it up. The lawn gets seriously roasted out back. I guess we’ll see, don’t know how else to review it yet.

Only thing I’m worried about is it getting stolen. I screwed it to a patio column with the bracket, then some steel strapping so it will be harder/take longer to snipe if someone tries. Any other thoughts on this are welcome.
    how is this thing going?

Seeing a lot of that all over town, usually on the edges of people’s lawns. This was a weird winter in Calgary, seeing a lot of dead trees too.

+1 for re-sodding. I’m finding it’s tough to get grass to germinate in this hot weather unless you can water it multiple times per day.
I have that issue on the patch beside the drive way as well and one of my Aspen trees died too but the trees in the back. If anyone has any tips on removing it that would be great, i got 3 in a row so not sure how deep down i have to go. Ill want to replant a new one

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

Anyone with one of those dethatcher/scarifiers want to rent it out to me for a case of beer? I did my annual power rake with a big gas one last fall, but want to go over the lawn again before I overseed soon.

Perhaps a dumb question. Anyone know if a recommended place to order bulk plants for landscaping.

Namely. I need to order 40-50 cotoneasters for a new hedge.

Seems like lots of places stock them, but wondering if there is anyone who can coordinate delivery for a large order?

Some places seem to do it, but questionable pricing or mention delivering through Purolator or some nonsense. For so many I worry that it would even take a few loads with a pickup.

Thanks, but I already did the deep power rake in the fall. I just want a light scarifying to help get the seeds buried.

I've used Countryside Garden, they delivered my Evans Cherry trees, so I don't see why they wouldn't with a bulk order like yours. Watch out for cotoneasters though. They can and will, get wiped out easily by oystershell scale. I've had to take mine down to the ground 3 times over the last 15 years. Fortunately they do grow back quickly but it's unavoidable to get oystershell in this city. Unless you've got the only cotoneaster in your neighbourhood.

It's not hard to treat, but you only have about a week in the spring to spray for them, before they burrow again.

Well aware of cottoneasterisms. Have one already on one side of the yard, which needs annual spraying.

Will check in, in a prefect world I was going to rent a truck and pick up a bunch tomorrow, but feeling like 40+ will take up too much space in a bed.
