If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Yeah, but how did they treat you at home depot when you bought fertilizer and your mower? Did they know who you were and what kind of lawn you were repping? Did you show them pics so they'd treat you with respect and give you the fertilizer you want at advertised price?

How vital is aerating? Can you get away with just dethatching, overseeding and fertilizing?

It's not. Maybe every 2-3 years.
I'm doing mine in the fall this year.

I'd post pics of my landing strip, but the voles have made it patchy.

Tossed down green max this weekend for that deep greening. Been very cool, rainy weather here, perfect time for it.

I've ordered liquid fertilizer now. Americans have it good, so many options. Found a Canadian source for some product and will try it out. Ordered 10L jugs. Will be applying Iron as well. Lets see how crazy this gets....

    Pic pre-fertilizer. Them stripes.

    Looks great.

Which liquid fertilizer are you going to try out? Details?

What's the deal with liquid for grass? Seems sorta pointless.

Anyhow you can just buy soluble fertilizer and add water - 20-8-8 by Promix would work well for grass and is available everywhere.

There used to be a sweet Miracle Gro product that you could insert upstream of your sprinkler and it would meter the fert out. Seemed like such a good idea but it's discontinued.
I'm guessing too many kids ended up "playing in the sprinkler" when the fert was connected and it was deemed unsafe. Now they just stay inside and drink pop.
But that's none of my business...

I use it in my garden beds but it works on the lawn as well.

I'm also really curious if super fancy fertilizer really matters? I don't have any specific kind that I target, every year I simply pick a premium brand and not the cheapest option yet my lawn always looks great. My neighbors always ask me what fertilizer I use as well and I'm convinced the shape of my lawn has more to do with frequency of watering then anything else.

If it starts to get lighter green, mid way through the summer, I'll re-apply the fertilizer and keep watering. I don't over-seed, I don't top dress, I aerate once every 2-3 years if I remember, and power rake in the spring.

That's similar but is for hand-watering, the one he's talking about went inline on the hose and could feed metered fertilizer to any sprinkler you attached it to.

You can get venturi-based fertilizer injectors on Amazon for fairly cheap, and the Chapin G405 looks like you may be able to unscrew the nozzle end and hook up a hose.
