It's been a terrible spring. Winter snow on AB side was fine, but then we got heat and zero precip and it's fucked us so hard. Very unhelpful combination of short term weather conditions.

El Nino. Damn Mexicans.
I’m always a fan of hot dry conditions, but that huge amount of late snow really pissed me off. Lost about a month of golf, which equates to about $1000 in membership dues down the drain. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Tbh. I’ll trade how awesome May and June golf has been for that all day long. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Im watering daily sunday through saturday in the front and monday through sunday in the rear. Should cover me for any watering bans.
Tap, Rack, BANG!
I wish I had a timer to water my lawn in the dead of night, away from prying eyes...

Has Calgary ever had a watering ban?
During floods I think there was one.
That’s literally how it looks from just being dirt and new seed? Or is that existing grass you’re supplementing hahaThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Edit: I’m dumb I see your last post. I don’t get it, my watering timers are maxed out at the intervals and I have nothing even close to that. I did loam seed mixed it all up. Tried a couple seeds too incase one sucked.
I've never had sprouts that early either. Last time I planted, it was at least 2 weeks before I saw anything but dirt. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Literally just dirt. I cut out the sod in that corner because it was doing so poorly I wanted to start from scratch. You can see the diagonal line were I cut it. It's a layer of loom (to make up for the height of the cut out sod), then the seeds, then a light layer of loom on top. As I said, I was watering 4 times a day, at 15 minutes per watering, but this spot actually gets hit by both zones so was getting 30min.
The other areas that were only getting 15 minutes aren't nearly as well off as this spot. So the lesson is more water. Never enough water with the weather we've been having.
Edit: Oh, and no fertilizer, because I had fertilized the entire lawn a month ago, so didn't want to over-do it.

Give it some time. It’s been what, a week for you? I know mine went from dirt dirt dirt to suddenly sprouts one weekend. Different seeds germinate at different speeds. An hour of watering a day is insane but you know it was kept moist even in 30 degree weatherThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah, until they germinate you HAVE to keep it watered. I switched the schedule to twice a day this weekend, and next weekend I'll cut down again, and the week after that back to normal watering. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This was may 17, after a winter of two dogs
Still a bit patchy (see dogs), but this was just seed raked over dirt, watered 4 minutes every three hours for ~2 weeks

Nice results. Thinking of fixing some patches, is Mid june too hot to do this? should I just wait till the fall? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
haha, i lack the patience for these kinds of things.
I'll hold tight. i swear this morning there was actually more sprouts then yesterday afternoon when i looked, a glimmer of hope!
If you have the patience to wait, I’d wait. I’m trying to sort the patches and it’s been a struggle with how hot it’s been. Or wait till we have a cooler forecast for 1-2 weeks and then giver. Wife is getting annoyed with the non stop watering but I’m trying to get ahead of a water banThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Lowes/Rona has CIL Lawn Food and Triple Play Lawn Fertilizer on clearance for $4.40/bag and $5.50/bag. Found some $4 off coupons around the garden center. $0.40 cents a bag!! Grabbed 12 bags, gave 3 to my co-worker, gave 2 to my neighbor. They are 30-0-3. Never fertilized before. But at this price, I can sprinkle it like a boss. The $5.50 bag was 33-0-3 with added Iron. Whats better?
