Good point. I think I'm going to give it a whirl this weekend. Looks like freezing temps 10 days out, probably too late to overseed.
Still not a bad idea to seed though. They'll get pushed into the ground so birds won't chow down on them when the snow melts in spring. I would wait until we expecting snow or daytime temps below zero though, that way they aren't trying to germinate.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Feel like such a fool for watering lately, but things have been pretty dry so there's not much choice.

Same here. I still haven't blown out my irrigation lines yet. I'm sure the neighbours cringe when they see my heads going off each morning, but hey, at least the grass is greener on my side of the yard for once!

Yea I've only watered once in the past month or so and my grass is super dry. I have been watering our trees though.

Ideal time to aerate and overseed in Calgary is around August 15th. Enough time for the seed to hardy up for winter. Aerating in spring not as good due to weed pressure.

Scott's lawn food says to spread and leave it as is with no watering. They lie! My grass turned yellow in some spots so I had to water it lol. My bad, never listening to the bag again.

Should I leave my grass shorter for the winter if the neighborhood has voles? I didn’t have them last year because of my dog I assume but some of the neighbors did. Want to leave the lawn in proper shape.

I like to cut the grass short for winter. I've found long grass will bend over and lay flat after heavy snow and there's lots of brown dead grass to clean up in the spring.

Yes. But that's pretty well an impossible task.

crab apple trees are the worst trees. This is a good time of year to cut that down.

Is there any point of watering if we end up getting warmer days this month? Would it help or hurt the grass in the winter.

I'd put it to bed at this point, most of it is going dormant. You dont want to wake it up with a big water and then overnight freeze it

The voles last year killed the right side of my lawn.. I'll try cutting my grass as low as I can get it this year and see how it fares. Still trying to recover from the destruction the voles left behind

Same here. I got it filled in pretty well by raking and reseeding in August. Hopefully it survives through the winter and those bastard voles aren't back.

Put out some traps after your last mow. Also trample down the first couple big snows you get.
