Literally all of the EZ Seed I put down last year winter killed, but the cheap contractor mix from Home Depot is thriving. Same timing, same care, same everything, looked great in the fall. Just throwing that out there.

I’m beginning to think mine did wash away even though I raked it in, lots grew but the bare area didn’t at all. Pretty annoying haha.. at least I get to spend lots of time hanging out with these guys in my yard.

I can’t imagine how much better my lawn would look if I fertilized with human waste.

Without searching through this can anyone help with water schedule for grass. I see some say every day for a bit, others 1-2 times a week for 30-40 minutes.

2 times a week for 30 is a good place to start. Daily encourages shallow roots.

    Grass likes water.

When hits high 20’s out with no rain for weeks you likely need to water more often.

Most of my neighbours with irrigation water their lawns daily. Their grass is pretty green.

how is this contractor mix from HD sold? Big massive bags or can you buy small amounts?

90_Shelby, that is really impressive, looks amazing.

I spent so much time, effort and money on my lawn last year to better, but still 'medium' results this year. I kind of regret not completely resodding areas. This year the priority is a DIY irrigation system.

One thing this year, I am not bagging my clippings anymore, going to mulch and just let them decompose into the lawn.

I've always experienced some die back with EZ Seed. Not sure if its from the type of seed or just grass that didn't take enough before winter showed up.

Depends on your soil, sun exposure, and especially if you have any moisture sucking tree around. Evergreens suck.

Post a pic of your lawn. Sometimes a double dose of fertilizer and more water will fix it without a lot of effort.

I only mow once a week and if I opted to mulch the clippings, my mower would likely stall out and my lawn would look like crap from all of the grass. Additionally, if your lawn benefits from mulching the clippings, more fertilizer will give you the same improved results.

I have re-sodded a few spots in my yard and I only found it worth it if I was filling in what was previously a garden (large area) or a very troubled spot under my spruce tree. Although, this year I reseeded under the spruce tree where I wiped it out with the power rake blade set too low and it recovered great.

All I know is that fertilizer and lots of water go a long way. My yard looked like crap when I moved in and I haven't done anything super fancy to get it looking like it does.

This, I water twice as much under big trees and will still water underneath them, even if it rains.

I kindof agree that I would rather fertilize more than mulch. Different if you had a truly enormous lawn I guess and the clippings were getting out of hand.

Thanks, no trees that cause shade or water issues. Back yard gets sun right now from 11AM -sunset, front gets sun from sunrise until 2-3PM. House is 3 years old and not sure on how the soil is.

Lawn was starting to look good finally, then we left an 11' diameter plastic kids splash thing out (empty) on Sunday afternoon. Absolutely baked the grass underneath, RIP.

It's hopefully not as bad as it looks, the brown is only the top ~1/2 of the blade, hoping it recovers.
