Buy a water timer and it's zero effort to water three times a day.

Yeah that's a pretty straight forward seed project. Follow the steps posted and you should get pretty good results.

Do birds that we have here even waste their time eating grass seeds?
Maybe they do but I've never seen it or had an issue.

I have a timer stashed somewhere actually... But that means i gotta replace the leaky bib or the seal at least lol... guess i better get to it.

I also have those awesome contracting hoses, but they wouldn't be great for this so maybe i'll have to buy some regular ass hoses.

i'd rather be working on my car.

The way I see it. You could put a ton of effort into seeding and maybe get a good outcome.

Or you could put a ton of effort into resodding, and have a green lawn next week and have a very high chance of it taking.

My bet is if you try the first you likely end up doing the second anyway.

I'm going to disagree - that's not hard to seed at all. The key is making sure you have enough moist soil in contact with the seed. Get some normal screened loam, throw that down (at least 1/2"), then spread seed - don't be afraid to go a little heavy on seed. After that, do a pass with the rake to mix the seed with soil, then roll to pack it all down. Could add a thin layer of peat moss on top to trap more moisture in, but not critical. Then just water the shit out of it til it grows.

If you're DIYing, this is way easier than digging up and re-sodding. Key is just watering 3x a day or more to keep it moist for a couple weeks until you get solid germination.
This! Only thing I'd add is nuke it all with roundup first and time your project. Mid July apply Round up, August 1st, get the seed in the ground. Grass will grow better after the mid summer heat.

For the size of that strip, I'd just get fake grass.

Fuck I dunno using a SOD remover is pretty easy lol… I too for once may be agreeing with Mr. Ramos…

I shoulda raked it in though damn that’s a good idea! I can’t really water three times a day though haha.. I’m going to take a run at the seeding if it’s shit by July I’ll fucking giver on the SOD, make my land lord split the cost.

Also I don’t know why it flipped the pic, straight from my iPhone, haha super annoying sorry.
My vote is for sod when it’s that bad. Instant gratification when it’s done as well.

okay, I've gone full @nismodrifter and gotten fascinated by lawn shit. I even ordered one of those levelling rakes. I mowed my lawn for the first time in like 4 years there other day and thoroughly enjoyed the 90 minutes of fucking solitude.

Okay. So what do I need to get setup for fertilizing? Youtube is surprisingly little help since people are all over place.

I’m getting sick of the weeds on my lawn… who and how much would I have to pay to get someone to dump some agricultural grade weed killer on the park next door? The whole thing is a sea of yellow and without it fucking off I don’t think I will ever have a worthy lawn

your lawn is plenty big to get one of the push broadcast spreaders. Then whatever fertilizer you get will typically tell you what setting to use on your spreader. its about as straightforward as it gets. Make sure you walk a consistent speed, and try to brush it off your sidewalks as fertilizer will stain concrete

Seems there is some debate about what to use for fertilizer?

Do I just buy the most expensive shit?

Chemical is chemical. If you want to pay more for the same chemical fill your boots.

If you want to be a lawn nerd do a soil test and figure out what your soil is lacking and weight your fertilizer to that.

Yup. The plant guy on CBC noon the other day was saying that unless you really fuck up and put way too much down, your lawn/plants/garden will figure out what they need to take from fertilizer and just ignore the rest. kinda hard to go wrong unless you drop a bucket of it in one spot and fry the area.

Scotts green max is good stuff. They don’t lie about the claim that it gives you a noticeably deeper green within a few days.
