You don't require it every day.

I am. My schedule is 20min per zone daily starting at 6am with sunday a rest/mow day. With the heat, i added sunday as a water day as well. Same schedule. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm doing 20min every morning as well. My backyard somehow gets direct sun from 8:00am until 9:00pm and my lawn gets absolutely fried if I don't baby it in hot weather, and takes forever to come back. It's too early in the year for me to give up on it and have a yard full of crusty brown dirt and sticks.
20 mins as soon as I wake up everyday as well. Have a west facing backyard so alot of sun.
Short duration every day isn't as good as extra long duration every other day. You want the water to go deep, so the grass roots will as well. I alternate days front and back yard and an hour total per yard starting at 5am. Gives lots of time for the water to soak in deep.
I might have to start going longer too because of the damned trees. You can tell where the larger roots are underground because the soil in those spots is super dry. Trees are thirsty bitches.

Yea best to do 40 minutes every other day then 20 every day.
Also I've been watering mine in the evening and I have so many damn mushrooms now lol.
Another week and the new growth should be blended in even better. Also need to do one more round of spot seeding to fix the couple patchy spots still, obviously no chance in seeding in this heat.
I've been soaking our lawn in morning and evening and it still looks like it is barely hanging on to life in this heat. We are east/west facing so it just bakes for many hours each day, especially in the evening. Also, I think the soil underneath is full of gravel so I don't think the water retention is very good.
Man. Green grass is nice and all, but getting up 20 minutes earlier in the morning?
No bueno

That's what sprinkler timers are for. My front is underground, but the back I set up with a hose timer, and leave the sprinklers and hoses setup all the time for this weather. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Watering every day will make you lawn very nice, no doubt... but watering twice as long every other day will make the roots shoot deeper and allow you to water less in the future. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
And I have mushrooms cause I water at night; I'm not getting up early to water my damn lawn haha.
You guys are lucky with all your mini lawns.
How bad would it be to cut the grass this week? I read something about trying not to stress the lawn during a heat wave. I leave for Vancouver on Friday and was hoping to cut it before I leave.
Grass here has gone dormant in patches. Too freaking hot. Yesterday was +39, felt like 43. We have summer time water restrictions in place anyways which limit watering grass to twice weekly. I sneak in an extra soak when needed. Can't wait for things to cool off and then the work begins to get it looking nice again.
I cut my back grass last night cause it was out of control long. I will now be watering daily (or every other day lol) till it grows out a little. If you cut it just follow up with a good soaking and hope for the best. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If you cut it, just don't cut it super short and give it a good water before you go on vacation. Leave it 3" or so and it'll probably be fine. The crazy heat is supposed to be gone by Friday/Saturday as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My June 19th fertilizer burned some stripes in the lawn. Not badly, but it looks silly.
I borrowed my neighbour's AccuSpreader and in the past, I have put the setting lower than recommended. This time, I didn't. Plus, I'm too spatially retarded to see where my last row was, so I think I doubled up on a couple stripes.
It's like Clarkson's Farm.
FML.
How late do you figure is too late to water in the mornings? I'm rarely up before 9 or 10 and seeing it already 27C out when I woke up is making me think I should switch to evening waterings even though everything I read was mornings were better
IMO you're fine until there is intense direct sun on it, then it will start to evaporate quite fast. If it's in the shade even if its warm out my lawn stays wet for quite a while. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I like watering in the evening because it has more time to soak in before the heat comes the next day. Or just use a timer and have it come on at 4AM or something. It's so dry here I don't think you need to worry about watering at night causing mold or anything like that.
Get a $25 water timer. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
