It’s a rough start to the year.
It’s a rough start to the year.
I've seen that rock on the news, usually with a car perched on it.

Anyone have experience with getting rid of crab grass? Seems like Canada doesnt like most herbicides that kill it
Dig it up, plant new grass. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's the only solution I've ever heard of that works. Kill entire lawn, lay sod. Or just chillax and have crabgrass because that's still grass and who cares? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Isn't it actually "quack grass" and folks around here get the name wrong?
I think both types exist in the world. I don't know which type we have here, and really who the fuck cares, I'm not some turf scientist (not a turf accountant) and neither are you.

You import the same stuff as Nismodrifter, Tenacity, and hope that it makes it across the border. It's a pre and post emergent, small bottle but will last a long time on an average size yard. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I got some crab grass from some shitty seed last year, not a ton has spread yet but I definitely glare at it almost every day.
Can I just sit down and kill it from the root with a flat head screw driver or something?
As ThePenIsMightier mentioned what you have is likely quackgrass. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I would avoid digging it up unless you can guarantee a full removal of its lateral rhizomes. If you just yank out part of it you'll encourage it to spread more rapidly.
Your options are limited and it depends on how much quackgrass you have. If you don't have much, go pick up some glyphosate and a small paintbrush and carefully apply the glyphosate to the quackgrass. If you have a lot and your yard is big, then you'll probably want to nuke the entire thing come fall. Another option is purchasing a product called Certainty https://www.seedranch.com/Certainty-...icide-1.25.htm
Tenacity will not kill or prevent quackgrass. It'll turn it white temporarily, which will help you identify it (along with other undesirable weeds in your lawn) so you can spot treat it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Like OTown you probably have quackgrass not crabgrass. Crabgrass is much easier to treat than quackgrass. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Quackgrass and its rhizomes
Crabgrass
My hillbilly neighbor's yard which is 'natural landscape', otherwise known as dirt that they've just let go to town with weeds and shit for the past 2 years since they moved in has started spreading quack grass under the fence into my manicured lawn. How and where can I smuggle the good shit in? Or can farmers get the good shit here in Canada?
This article: https://www.solutionsstores.com/quackgrass-control
says that you can use a product called Certainty to control it. I've not tried it but may if any quack grass gets out of control. No idea if you can get it up here or not.
