Yeah I think so. I don't really have anything bad to say about him as he did show up on time and did everything properly. I just think his sprayer was leaking a bit and probably dumped extra fertilizer as he went.

Wasn't the end of the world to sort out and I mostly just cared about the power raking as the lawn was pretty rough from the prior owners.
Hopefully, it was just a one-time glitch. He's doing our place as I type. Seems like a good guy, I think this is our 3rd or 4th year. I have some work to do after. as we have some serious vole damage in the front and some leftover chinch bug damage in the back. Plus the strip between ours and our neighbour's driveways is the usual crap. We both shovel snow onto it, with all the salt and gravel and crap that comes with it. A neighbour on the baller side of the circle did turf after the chinch bug toasted his lawn. Looks pretty good. Could use a vacuum...

I'm wondering how long those power rakes run for before breaking down or needing service? I've had 2 guys cancel now due to their machine needing to be fixed.

Yup. 60$ for 4 hours from home depot. If you can split it with the neighbours it'd be quite cheap to do since it's fairly quick to hit a lawn.

I see, so most of these kijiji guys are just renting it at the beginning of the day/week, and when they can't get the machine they backup their bookings. I guess I need to pay more for a professional crew to do it?

Unless it's a large company, they don't likely own their equipment. This is seasonal work, so it isn't worth it.

A long time ago I saw my neighbours contractor using the exact machine I had rented a week earlier, lol.

Yeah, most small season people aren't booked solid. Often they'll stagger their bookings to fill days or fill by area. That 'oh my next opening is next Monday' is more likely they already have a couple appointments Monday and want to try and do them all back to back to save costs.

Bought a dethatcher from Can Tire on sale $219 down to $179.

Whats the process, dethatch, over-seed, loose soil over top, water, lawn food/fertilizer?

*lawn has never received that service where you pull up lil plugs of grass and create lil holes before, is that beneficial*

I recommend it in Autumn because those turds can go through a winter and thaw cycle. Doing it now is more popular, but it will leave your lawn a muddy mess for several weeks.

Raked and threw down some seed when I had that burnt out patch a couple weeks ago. But other than that, I just watered it 2-3x so far this year. I used some fall fertilizer last year, which seems to have worked.

If that were the size of my front lawn, there's zero chance I wouldn't have fake grass.

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.
