I wonder what the delta would have been between what you did buying the tool and the soil, versus a landscaping company.

Did you look into that? Usually their material cost is ridiculously low and I wonder if you would have ended at a similar place.

I don't care re the $ delta, or time, or calling joes lawnscaping company to come and waste my time and then do a shit job. I do my own work. I enjoy it.

Totally fair. If that’s your thing then power to you. Was just curious if you had it cross quoted etc.

Top dressing question: Anyone have any good experiences with a source for a yard of compost? I've done a little research, and found some people are unhappy with home depot yard-orders as it can be really clumpy and full of clay.
Soil Kings, in town seems to have decent quality compost according to their site for $70/yard for pick up. https://soilkings.com/product-category/soil-products/
I forgot to mention, if you're looking to level your grass don't use compost. Almost all of it will disappear in a few weeks. Use soil if you want to level.

I just call bullshit when people say they don't value their time.

Everybody is different, what you consider work, someone else might consider a hobby.

We also change as we get older, some hobbies I enjoyed years ago, are more like work to me now, and I'd rather pay someone.

Being "not poor" can also help with this decision making process.

The older I get, the more time becomes my most valuable commodity.

I'm having a bunch of little trees starting to grow around one of our large trees in our yard. Our yard guy(s) suggested after having them all yanked out, to have a circular gravel patch put in after they dig down a ways. Not wild about the idea, not sure if there are better alternatives though.

    Aeration $60-80
    Power Rake $50-$70
    Fertilize $25-$40

Got mine power raked last week and I'll never hand rake my yard again. Decent value for $50 to avoid the dust and allergy BS.

There is no to soon, unless we're expecting an overnight freeze.

If you have underground sprinklers you should wait until around Victoria Day to use them.

    Water away otherwise.

Yea I have been watering the last couple days, went to fire the sprinkler up this morning and the nozzles were all frozen. Probably fucked it up.
