Waste of time. Live with it for the rest of this season and do it proper in the spring next year. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I think of it like using antiseptic. Drink a bottle of it = die. Use a little on an open wound = fine.
Actually the soil is usable pretty well immediately.
Agree. It slightly increases the salinity in blanket, agricultural applications. But us regular tards won't gonna fuck shit ups. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Got 2000sqft of seed in the ground today. Went with PRG for quick germination.
Rolled the soil, spread seed and starter fertilizer, raked it in, rolled it and covered in Peat moss. Watering 3 times a day.
That looks awesome keep us updated with the results
Tap, Rack, BANG!
4 days and there's some germination. Picked up a used reel mower for dirt cheap, they're nice to use on new lawns as they don't leave wheel indents. Planning to keep this mowed on the lowest setting, around 1".
Don't cut it to 1 inch until it's grown in thickly. Actually 1 inch is too short even then, but...

I figure I'll be cutting it in about a week. The last lawn I seeded I cut it short with a reel mower, turned out nice. The reel won't scalp it like a rotary will and with fall around the corner I think the short grass will be ok.
Do you guys cut the grass really low before winter hits, or does it even matter
Yes it matters, you should cut it LONG before winter. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Great way to keep your vole population fat over winter.

Good deal coming up for a huge bag of fall fertilizer:
Is it really much different than the normal stuff or is this just a marketing gimmick? I use Scotts max green over spring and summer which is 27-0-2, not sure if the extra N and K with fall blend actually makes a difference?
I wonder if the higher nutrients are just to offset leaching over the winter? I'd think that's just a waste of money vs. buying cheaper fertilizer and doing it in the spring but idkThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Voles are going to dig tunnels through the grass over the winter if it's kept long (I've also had experience with this issue). Also, the thatch build up over the winter due to the long grass would be a nightmare for spring clean up. My last seasonal cut is always shorter before winter, maybe 2-2.5" max.

I'm pretty sure its more healthy for the lawn to keep it longer over winter.
But if you have voles cutting it short might help with burrowing.
I always cut short because fuck the voles.
Voles? #suburbanlife

Keep it at the same fall height heading into winter.
But ideally less 3" or just below that is what most do. Just make sure you're mowing at your winter height like 3-4 mows before the final one so you aren't stressing your grass before winter actually hits.
