WTF is going on here? Chinch bugs? There are some on the block, but I don't see any when I examine the area.
It's the backyard, so not dogs.

I don’t think it’s voles, unless the snow just melted from your lawn and the dead spots are actually loose grass where voles made tunnels.

Chinch bugs is my guess.

Yeah doesn't look like typical Voles. No loose grass, doesn't look like tunnels. Only happened in the last 2 weeks.
I'll have to go out with a magnifier and look closer for signs of Chinch bugs.
Not ruling out Voles though.

Each of my traps caught a mice/vole.

I’ve caught ~ 11 rodents (voles, field mice, deer mouse) in my yard over the last month, a family member has also caught a lot of mice this summer as well. Seems to be a lot more around then normal as we spotted them mid-day running around.

Yeah, I caught two fat fuckin mice in my garden this year. I could see each galavanting around all the way from my window, so I set a trap and bang within 4hr for the first one and then same for second.
I think they were eating some of my beets. They looked way too big to be tunneling voles, but I'm no entomologist.

Yea, I'm catching a vole every few days the last month after not catching anything in months. Always in the same spot (between fence post and foundation).

my neighbours cat got eaten by a coyote while hunting for voles/mice in the empty lot. I watched it happen. RIP in peace neighbour cat. circle of life.
