Slightly off topic...but what do you use for ants...

I want to do more for my back yard grass but am constantly fighting pop up ant colonies.

None of the commercial stuff seems to work and I can't find powdered Borax in calgary to try what seems to be the most popular home made stuff...

Ants are just as bad as dandelions and is a constant losing battle.

The place we are in now the entire front step is an ant colony and when they do their whole larvae stage its gross.

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I'm guessing you've tried Terro ant bait? We had quite the ant problem last summer, bought a bunch of Terro stuff and they arent back this year.

For ants, all you need is the little bottle (Dristan-size) with a chemical called Borax in it. They identify it as food, so it completely fucks them because 1) they take it to the queen and 2) they lay pheromone trails that tell the others "this way for good eats!"

I think it's a cholinesterase inhibitor, so go ahead and don't drink it. Pesticides are fucking serious business.

Yeah, Borax, sold in packages like this in the laundry isle. Ask your housekeeper to pick some up. Mix with something sweet, liquid or icing sugar.

I don't know what colour people's housekeepers are. I'll leave that up to them.

When I was looking last week there wasn't any Borax available in Calgary. At least when I was looking online...

Have heard this is a winner.

We are using terro liquid killer right now.

The ants take it and share it, but it takes a few weeks to reach a lethal does so they all pretty much arrive at dead around the same time. Borax is the active ingredient. Will report back.

I picked up one of those dethatchers at lowes in Signal Hill today. Sale price was $129, so a little more expensive. Not so much that I didn't buy it though haha.

How did you guys get it for $100?
