Arn's stopped doing lawnmower maintenance on machines that aren't Toro, Stihl or purchased from their store so I'm looking for a place that does tune ups and sharpening (or replacement). Can anyone recommend a place? I know that tune ups and sharpening can be done myself, but I can't be bothered with it.

I've had zero experience with the service department but Equipment Express does maintenance.

    Did a dethatching experiment.

I like the dethatching blades with the 'whiskers', but they only fit on push mowers. I have a POS push mower and the bag get's full in about 10', dethatching or otherwise, making way too many stops to empty the bag.

So, I bought 2 new dethatching blades, and modified them to fit on my ride on mower which has a grass bagger. The intention is to more easily bag the dethatched grass.

    $30 each at CT.

Love this thing. Got it for $1,000 and it pops sick 3ft wheelies on pavement. I'm serious.

Had to modify the mount included with the new blades by trimming the sides off, and boring out the center stars. Again, this is because these things are made for push mowers.

The grass is wet today, but I couldn't wait to try. Pretty satisfying, both on leaves and the grass. I settled on the right deck height by some trial and error.

Most importantly, I don't have to dump my push mower bag every 10'. I'll do the full lawn once it's dry. Overall, great success. For anyone looking to repeat, an alternative may be to take your current blades, just buy the orange whiskers, and drill some holes in your current blade to install the whiskers.
Very satisfying lol Never had a nice yard until last year and i must admit i look forward to working on it

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I bought one of these a few years ago and dealing with the cord is no issue. I removed the bag and hand rake the grass after which is relatively quick and then just run the mower over it.

CT has one on sale right now for $129.99:

Rona got a version for $120 right now.

I didn't know these things exists before this thread. I didn't buy this one but got a SunJoe one from HD. Impressed how effective it is.

    Re: Trimmer line.

Does anyone have positive experience with more expensive lines? I have been buying the cheap orange 0.095 line and find I go through it like crazy. Always bumping for more feed. Any recommendations appreciated. For use with a gas trimmer.

Anyone have tips for dealing with dog urine spots? Have one spot that sticks out like a sore thumb. Googling says that I have to dig it out completely?

So far I've flushed the area twice and planted some grass seed.

Rake out the dead grass as best you can then put a bit of top soil with seed. Water twice a day.

Ideally use this stuff but some people find it expensive.

I love it and swear by it. I think it’s actually on sale at Costco too this month. Normally $60 a bag (11.3kg) but I think it’s on for $48ish

You can make your own similar mix too

As long as you aren’t trying to reseed your whole lawn with it I agree ez seed is a great product.

    I think Costco carries it.

Yea use this shit (its awesome) and water in the morning and at night for best results, basically you want to keep it moist for a couple weeks till it germinates. Also dont bother seeding till its above -0c at night.

Thanks guys! Looks like it's $20 for the handle at HD/Lowes so I'll probably just get that. Just have a couple of spots from ppls dogs so I don't think I'll need a Costco sized bag....

Having this issue this year.... Do any of the dog deterrents work?

New neighbor (last year) behind us has a large poodle. Wasn't an issue till it started pissing on the piled up snow from shoveling the walks now I have patches all a long my front yard.

Caught the neighbor (in he's 50s) letting it pee on our lawn last night around 11pm as I was going to bed. Yelled at him out the window but he seemed to ignore me (dog was barking like crasy).

I don't think talking to him will do anything because it pretty obvious he's letting the dog do it and their front lawn is fine. Petty sure it makes other dog piss in the same spots as well.

I'll probably give bylaw a call if I can catch him again. Man people are assholes!!!

    Ironic username is ironic

That aside, the only way you are going to prevent dogs from peeing on your lawn is a fence or rip it up and put down something the dog won’t want to pee in. Up to you how much you care.

It’s shitty and yea dog owners can be entitled pricks but bylaw isn’t going to do shit about your neighbor letting their dog pee on your lawn. Frankly, it’s probably not even “your” lawn they are peeing on.

My advice is try to get over it and live your life. It’s not worth getting angry about.

You need a dual approach. 1) replace grass with "raccoon spikes" and 2) set up several of those motion activated pest deterrent sprinklers that reach the sidewalk.

    That'll get the bitches wet.

Newb question. I got 2 corner patches that look like this after the spring thaw.
Anything I can do to save it? I put a rake to it so get off some of the dead grass.

Great use case for EZ seed IMO.

Rake, clean up, use ez seed. It either grows back or the ez seed will grow. Win win win.

That shit will grow on a vertical utility pole if you water it properly! It's amazing!
