Even if you use the really good fabric you still get stuff poking through and stuff growing on top of it. We usually still have to weed all our gravel/fabric areas 3-4 times a year. Its not a lot but its enough to be annoying.

And if you dont want to pull up fabric and redo it then just get the biggest jugs of weed killer and start applying every chance you get. Obviously apply when its not about to rain (good luck with that lol) and just keep reapplying.

I'm pretty diligent about taking care of my grass, but we have some nearby neighbours that look like that. There's a house across the street who's lot looks like that, but it's all dandelions. Drives me nuts.

The nice thing about a lawn like that is the sheer size changes the scale of imperfections so they're no where near as noticeable.
    You make a good point.

Theres 1 house right when you enter my loop that is like this but both front yards are right beside each other so it looks even worse because you have 1 huge chunk of lawn that is perfectly maintained and the other is a free for all. It would drive me nuts if i was that neighbor.

Looks great littledan, especially the front giving what you deal with next door.

For those with neighbors who neglect their lawn, why not cut theirs too? That’s what I did today and he was thankful when I got caught. Just make sure you do it with a smile regardless of how well you get along with them.

I ended up cutting the neighbours strip and boulevard a couple times. But I dont have time to maintain another full yard with raking, weeding, cutting, feeding, watering etc. You come to canada, enjoy our milk and honey. Cut ur lawn. Lol /racism

I shovel my neighbors public sidewalk all winter, takes two minutes. But thier lawn is 4x larger than mine, and I'm allergic to grass. Not mowing that lawn.

Alright beyond lawn guru's. Just had sod planted today. Heavily watering it tonight, but when do you suggest fertilizer and what kind?

Don’t think you need to fertilize till it starts to take and root in.

Just keep it moist for the next couple weeks. Mother Nature should take care of that for you.

Yeah (not a guru) but I difficult recall that there are a variety of fert's that are called "turf starter".
I honestly can't recall whether they are supposed to be applied to the dirt prior to applying the turf, or, after.

Fertilizer should be added to the top soil after you've tilled it, but before you lay sod. Then add more 2 months later. Sod wont absorb the nutrients until after its got some good root structure established.

What's the best way to fix a sunken spot? Sod was laid last fall.

This. I've noticed this spring I have a lumpy and slightly low spot right in the middle of our yard. Super annoying. Was going to start slowly sprinkling soil on the low spot but no idea how to get is flat.

    With a rake.

Kidding, but also not. Just spread some soil in light layers once every few weeks until it's the elevation you need. Spread a bit, rake it in until flat, let the grass come back through and water it/wait for rain to compact the soil, repeat as necessary.

Interesting suggestion haha. That would work, I just kept pirturing myself spreading soil with my hands like a real fool.
