    Default Carfax question

Hey guys, I'm buying a used truck from a dealer, and was given a Carfax report from the dealer. I recall that Carproof used to be better than Carfax, because it would sometimes contain repairs etc. that Carfax didn't report. However, in searching, it seems that Carproof was purchased by Carfax.

So, my question is, is Carfax the best way to get the history of a vehicle, or is there a better service? Does anyone have access to Carfax if I were to provide them with the VIN?

    Thanks!

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Thanks! The link you sent is to purchase a Carfax report for $7, right? The dealer has provided that already on their website (actually, they give a link to the carfax site, where I can access it). I imagine it's the same report I'd get by paying, right?

Yes its a carfax for $7.00 and it should be the same report you'd get from the dealer if theyre giving you a carfax.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Checked carfax on my own car prior to selling it, im interested as to why it doesnt show any service history for 4 years prior to 2017 really. I owned the car from 2013 until now.
Also despite being in a fender bender that didnt show up, maybe because just a part of the plastic bumper needed repair, and my hail claim also didnt show up. Is it up to mechanics and lube places to be dilligent about reporting the services for them to show or does carfax just randomnly pick the ones to show?

    Carfax is a joke.
When I was selling a vehicle a few years ago, I bought a subscription. Punched in 2 of my wife's cars that had been totalled.
    Both came back clean.
2 years ago I traded in my CTS, dealer checked Carfax. Clean. 2 accidents, and one major hail storm. Total of at least 25K of repairs. Nothing on carfax.

I found I accidently had bought the US version and that showed nothing, ran a canadian report - shows my hail claim as non collission, shows my fender bender as left side....annoying.

I dont know how much people care or not care about fender benders when buying cars though. Im sure they will want to knock some cash off.
