    Default Career Development Courses

    Hi there beyond,
Looking to get some ideas as I was recently told by my boss that I have around 4k to be used this year in any Career Development courses / training / conferences
This really caught me of guard, as he also would like me to chose something sooner rather than later. I guess I should mention I currently work as a Business Analyst and have my M.I.S degree from the UofL.

My first thought was to browse EDX, I have completed a few of the courses they provide and the "MicroMasters" programs really caught my eye, just not sure how recognized those would be.

I also recently got an email from www.bestcareerleap.com and although some of the courses look like a great opportunity, I dont know how reputable that organization is, I dont even know how they got my email.

Im still doing a bit of research, but thought I would post here and see if I can get any recommendation on online programs or even daily courses / certifications in the Calgary area I can look into.

    Thanks in advance.

If you do ANY client facing stuff, a sales or public speaking course would be really valuable to you personally and professionally. Dale Carnegie springs to mind, but there are others. Conflict resolution, negotiation or writing courses are also good.

Look for a conference and turn it into a paid vacation

Look into something related to Data Analysis using tools like PowerBI/Alteryx/etc (or whatever your company uses). PowerBI is a pretty safe bet.

This. I work in construction and will go to Vegas for any heavy equipment event, world of concrete, etc. There is always a related conference in Vegas.

Thanks for all the feedback, right now I got a new born at home so a out of town vacation is not really an option.

Behaviours are the big hot thing at my company right now. Anything related to "emotional intelligence" or any dale Carnegie type-stuff is always applicable to just about any role. Haven't done anything local, but a colleague did a dale Carnegie course and like it, and they have a location in Calgary.

Although it doesn't seem to be popular outside of the IT world I really like the idea of the project management professional courses. They are over 4k but with the Alberta Job Grant covers 2/3 so the remaining 1/3 would be covered by the 4k.
