Default What's a good Xbox live game that I can play with a 4 year old?

Haven't played a lot of games since my daughter was born, and she really wants to play but most games I have are fairly complex, and/or not suitable for that age.

    Any ideas?

Lego games are great for the kids. I've had them on it since they were 3. At that age it's just running around busting up shit. 4 year old was worst, I had to play a lot. They're just starting to sort out the concept of missions/stories/levels and starting to solve puzzles, but man the # of times I've played the first mission in Marvel Lego at Grand Central station. Fucking shoot me now. By 5, they've figured out most of it on their own, and can play on their own, with just tougher puzzles needing your help. YMMV.

Minecraft is another one, but be prepared to build random shit for them.

On the iPad, all the cousins play Roblox online together and talk together on a Group FaceTime. Don't get suckered into buying Robucks or whatever. From 3 y/o to 10 y/o in the family. All I hear are stories of meep city and the sharks.

    Lego is good.
But also, it might be easier to buy an old Nintendo Wii or something. Lots of good titles for kids there.

Nintendo switch is where it's at for young kids.

Mario Kart, Minecraft, Lego games, Smash Brothers, Mario Maker (I used to make dead simple levels when my kids were 3-4 and they loved it).

Mine just got a heap of "Skylander" from a friend of ours. They can't play it worth a shit, but they sure enjoy it.
Super neat idea to switch characters with that portal thingy as well.

    Wii.
You’re lucky they stopped making those characters. Fuck my life the tears over wanting to buy more skylanders and Disney fucking infinity.

I bought the cheapest Lego game (Lego Movie), just to see how she liked it, and she loves running around the town center, but it's pretty small. Which one has the biggest open world?

I gotta be honest, I'm pretty surprised there's so many people playing video games with super young kids. I realize how silly that sounds, now that I type it out... but I'm surprised nonetheless. I didn't get a console til I was 11 or 12 (N64).

Curious what everyone's strategy is around this. Does anyone limit the number of gaming hours per week or anything (and if so, whats the limit)? My daughter isn't old enough for this yet but I'm interested to see what works for other people.

These days your kid becoming a pro gamer is the new trying to get your kid into the NHL. In that respect you can’t get them going early enough, gonna be lots of video game booster parents soon.

Got to win that “my kids a millionaire” lottery

Pretty much weekends only and 3 hours a day. Xbox has parental controls. Sometimes there are bonus weekday nights for extremely good behavior. Still way too much whining.

I personally see it as a good thing. I played video games as early as I can remember (I’m old so those lcd games) and I turned out fine. Figure if they can solve video game puzzles, they can solve real life problems. It also seems to help hand eye coordination, helpful in learning sports.

I’ll let you know how it goes in 15-20 years haha.

I think there's an important family choice to be made around the sum total of the various types of screen time. To me, Gaming vs. TV vs. youtube vs messing around with daddys phone isn't really an important distinction. I'm sure someone has done research on this, but for me, I treat all types of screen time the same, and work to limit that.

I suspect that parents mostly try to make their kids upbringing be some kind of blend of their own upbringing and their own current lifestyle.
