Max $60k budget, which SUV to buy?

So I had been previously thinking of getting a car and keeping my truck to drive in the winter. But the truck is getting close to 250km and I bought a trailer, so I want to keep the truck for towing and hauling my dog around in. So I need something new that I can drive year round.

Looking to spend a max of $60k, want to keep it either MY2018,2019,2020 and have warranty. Needs to have a nice interior, not be a total brick to drive, no requirement for more than 5 seats as it's just me right now. Would prefer something fun and will be financing through the dealer probably. Looking to buy within the next three months. Bonus would be the ability to tow 6,000lbs, but it's not a requirement

Have been looking at a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 5.7in in, but they are hard to find. Not a massive fan of the BMW (haven't driven one in a while though), Hyundai or Honda offerings for SUVs. I do not need a full size SUV, so nothing in the Yukon/Suburban size range.


Would possibly consider a sedan if it had AWD and could be driven in the winter without getting totally trashed. Will not be getting a truck since I already have one

It’s not gonna tow 6k lbs but the CX-5 signature is really nice interior and the 2.5 turbo is decently powered with 300 ft lbs of torque

Truck is staying. It’s a 2007 1500, so no real value left in it even though it’s in excellent shape. Plus I have a 28’ trailer to tow.

Keeping the dog in the truck keeps his shedding contained haha.

With $60k budget why not look at the higher up trims for the Grand Cherokee? Shouldn't be hard to find a 2019 Overland with a 5.7 with the current promotions on.

I drove a Q5 with the 2.0 for a week which has since been tweaked to 252HP... fuel economy, fit and finish and performance was I felt good VFD... also they can be purchased 1 year post use with 3 years remaining warrant from alot of car rental places. Last place told me they were getting rid of one with only 18k on it for $32

The only "utility" type of SUV is going to be a body on frame 4runner, or bigger like a Tahoe, Suburban, Expedition... and at that point, I'd just buy a truck.

I just saw a Jeep truck today... I'm in love... but jesus 65k for a 3.6? ffs...

Just needs 5 seater space and something fun, I'd go with something Turbo like Q5. Or Buster's GLA45 if used. Drove both and definitely are cars I find enjoyable to drive.

Choices like 4Runner is nice but I don't think the newer gen is fun to drive. Don't like the look of the Jeep Cherokee but turbo version might be fun but no experience on that one.

Towing 6K LBS and warranty for $60K really narrows the field. There are a lot of options with $60K but they don't tow for shit. The Jeep GC SRT would be the most fun but you're not getting new for $60K. Jeep Wrangler would be "fun" but I don't think the tow rating will fit your specs (not 100% sure though).

The only option is the Pathfinder. I have one, they’re good but for the price. It’s cheap right.

If you’re struggling for a Cherokee, I’d honestly go check a new Honda Passport.

They’re quick, look great IMO, with a little lift kit and tires and the factory accessory flares they’re transformed.

New explorer can tow 5600lbs, and an ST is 400hp/415tq, good reviews on it so far. RWD bias.

I’d avoid a 2017 GC SRT. They only provide 3 years drive train warranty in Canada.

6000lb is going to be bouncing off the tow limit of pretty much everything. That’s pretty serious towing...

I think you should drop the towing requirement. You have the truck for that. If it is a must have, then drop the truck. No point in doubling that up. That frees up your options quite a bit.

Drop the towing requirement, and get yourself a 4 door Jeep Wrangler, or an AWD subaru. Heck even a Kia Stinger in AWD would be fun.
