A common argument in this thread... "Back in the day"

How far back? $100 is fuck all these days compared to a decade or more ago. I recall 15 years ago thinking how much $100g was. Now it's nothing.

I thought Mitsu offered really great insights and thoughts here overall. But, fun's over now!

Inherited poverty is a real thing, yo. Sometimes people know what they know, and that's it.

My wife is an RN, sees the same folk come in and drain hospital resources, don't learn anything and then come back again and again. Terrible cycle to be in.

It's maddening. I don't think you're a judgemental person by nature and I can tell from your responses that you'd want nothing more than for people to have success in life.
Same here, and she's in emerg no less, we hear some real eye-opening shit.

Very true. I use the mushroom price index. Mushrooms cost about 2.5x what they did 27 years ago.

I was raised in a small townhome, that we rented. Much later in life, things improved after lots of hard work. You are about 25 years late on your attempted insult
It's not an insult, it's an observation.

Everything you post in almost every topic has a very black and white viewpoint of how the world is. In this case, a lot of people in this world get super shitty childhoods that don't set them up well for life.

The way you worded it, it was pretty clearly intended as a dig...I think now that it has backfired because you made assumptions about my upbringing, you are calling it an observation.

Anyway if you read the post you originally quoted, you would have seen I went out of my way to clarify that it is *not* a black and white issue, and I specifically wanted to avoid painting every situation with the same brush:

(and I am not trying to say they are all the same or chose to be in the situation to begin with)
My initial posts were more harsh, but they were adequately explained thereafter and were based on actual experience, which may differ from the next person's experience.

Christ. It doesn't matter if you rented when you were growing up and that your family's financial status improved with time. The fact you had parents that were capable of maintaining an award winning lawn is the fact. I grew up in a house that didn't have much money, but I did have 2 normal, educated parents. I would like to think I would have succeeded in life if I had been brought up extremely poor by a mom with FASD, but who the fuck knows.

John Cheese had some Cracked articles about growing up poor and trying to get out of it. Unfortunately they're all gone as it turned out he was a mega-creep.

    But you can read this:

And honestly, I would say most of Beyond has above average intelligence (even when we all think each other are idiots). It's pretty easy to overlook how having that has helped us make overall good choices in life to elevate ourselves, because we've never been without it. Just imagine the dumb shit we do in our worst moments of being drunk... except that's how you think 24/7 while sober.

$100 dollars would buy you, if spent on each single item:

    Over 400 eggs
    Over 100 lemons
    1.7 KG of Splenda
    370 packages of Mr. Noodles

Break that down however you want within the $100, and you shouldn't have been starving as long as you didn't mind eating those things every day haha.

Were you shopping at Planet Organic or something? For $100 and those food items, you could have been eating ~6-7 eggs a day, ~6 Mr noodles packs a day, and still enjoyed the occasional tall glass of splenda lemonade haha. Or the laundry list of items I posted above. And that's at Superstore which is not always the cheapest place.

Small town living buddy. Gas money to drive to the nearest city would have wiped out the $100. In hindsight I should have sprung for a large bag of rice instead of the mr noodles.
I can eat more hot wings than you.
