    Default Anybody overland?

Curious to see people’s setups on their trucks and SUV’s.

What tent are you running/rail system?
What equipment do you bring with you/supplies?

I am interested in this. I am seriously contemplating doing this with my truck, so I would like to see different setups and equipment being used. I am currently on the lookout for a good deal on a tent and rack system.

Is this where I say that roof top tents are stupid? Too heavy, reduces utility of vehicle, and foolishly expensive.

Save a thousand bucks by buying literally ANY of the most expensive ground tents at MEC and use that money for multiple flannel shirts and a camera to post your hipster pictures to the 'gram.

I’d say +1 to this for 90% of people. I can understand them if you are in a place where there is a real practical reason to need to be off the ground (Snakes?, Predators?, Winter?).

But for car camping like 90% of people use them for, what a PIA. Imagine trying to get out of one of those things hung over trying to rock a piss ( at least this is a factor the way I camp).

I like the idea of over landing in general though, I just wouldn’t know where to start around here.

Isn't it just off-road camping with a 4x4 or did it need a new name for some reason? We used to go camping northwest of Cochrane in the forestry reserve and we just called it camping, out in the bush and off of a trail somewhere.
    Will fuck off, again.

Best way to deal with a hangover: get out of a modern bed, walk across a nice covered floor, and piss in your own toilet.

Would this be considered overlanding?? Older slide in truck camper set up for off grid (solar powered) with a 2015 Sierra.

I took it up through Grey Creek Pass in BC a few weeks ago, extremely rough and remote logging road with 18% grades up and down. It was very rough and a few times I definitely questioned bringing the set up through this road because of the big rocks and having so much weight over the back tires. Hill descent control worked amazing going down the steep grades as well.

I think there is an implication of driving more than 30 feet away from the road with over landing. But ya.

And at 31 feet your tent needs to be on your roof. Otherwise you're not a true overlander.

Also for anyone looking to camp off grid or overland. Check out the app IOverlander. Basically the app shows where you can camp or where others have camped for free. It posts the GPS coordinates, pictures and links to google maps for tons of free spots. It is very popular in the Central America and South America so it would be great to see more users in Canada.

Iniaed to overland hard in a Pontiac Sunfire. Went into some gnarly places. Places I'd be too timid to take my truck these days.

The backroads map books are gold for off the beaten track camping. There's some amazing stuff out there.

I plan on making overnight tenting trips on my side-by-side with my son next summer. Is this considered overlanding?

Have been wanting to build something for “Overland” but don’t have the income and time currently. Possibly my next project.

Can get some really nice setups that go above a truck bed too.

If you don't have to change your clothing and pose your beverage beside a body of water, it's not overlanding.

Why all the hate? C'mon guys, lets keep it on topic, and let those that enjoy the idea to do so.

I am currently looking at getting the universal fit RCI bed rack to mount the tent on. But yeah, the roof top tents are expensive, and I am not seeing them listed on Kijiji much...
