Default Update: Coyotes in Arbour Lake area

I couldn't find the old thread where @rage2 and other members were talking about coyotes in the Arbour Lake area. Just ran across this article today:

    https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/they-were...y_xaALzmYo5sOk

What's the normal Calgary Parks protocol for something like this? Keep monitoring until shit hits the fan?

Seems to be CoC way of doing things, our community has a black bear running round and they are doing the same monitoring type shit too. Earlier in the year there was a black bear that was hanging out near the kids school bus stops and the CoC told me its a friendly bear and did nothing else.

The # of people camping here and shooting pics when they were fenced in. I knew this was going to be a problem now that the fence is removed lol. I shift fart every time I drive by. Fuck these guys.

As for the farm, that's getting bulldozed right now, brand new development being built there.

    https://communities.hopewellresident...ban-adventure/

Was a bit of a NIMBY shit show during approval process. Lots of concerns, such as the lake is getting to capacity on the hot days, if these guys would be 2nd tier citizens with no lake access. Community Association and Hopewell pushed it through with minimal communications. Back story, the farm was owned by the Hawkwood family, who owned all the land from there to Hawkwood. They made Arbour Lake their home, and even paid for the community centre + maintenance for a few decades (hence our low fees). Anyways, the family died, the will wanted that land to be designated park land for Arbour Lake residents, but the city refused to rezone it as such, only to rezone as high density development. The kids were done with the fight, sold to Hopewell, and here we are.

Oh, they will get there eventually. Have not seen coyotes in ages then someone let some domesticated rabbit out and I see they are back. It's basically a buffet since these domesticated ones doesn't run as fast.

Coyotes in residential neighborhoods are nothing new, see at least one or two a month in Copperfield. They are ballsy and smart, had one try and trick my GSD into a game of chase and had two more try and flank us on a walk while the big guy in the middle put on a show. I'm quite sure my dog could go blow for blow against any of the ones by me solo, but not when there is a pack.

People want the city to keep their pets safe? How about people start by not letting their dogs run around off leash and unsupervised where they know coyotes are hanging out?

Funny how simple a solution can be.

Doesn't matter how fast they run. One coyote chases, leading the rabbit a certain direction. Another coyote hides and leaps out when the rabbit crosses it.

A couple of coyotes can utterly decimate a rabbit/hare population in a matter of days.

Coyotes suck, but I had a bobcat stalk my prego wife and Alaskan husky while walking around the block. She called me in a panic 2 doors down from our house where she was boxed in between thick shrubs and the neighbours house. I went running out like a crazy old man. when I got to them, the bobcat was 10' at most. Wife and dog where on the neighbours front step. Dam dog is getting too old to do anything except stare at the door warranting in....it was too close for comfort for sure

Ya. My wife's incident was a couple weeks before that. Called 311 and the above was their response. Didn't have fish and Wildlife call to get details or anything.

I hear the coyotes in Mount Pleasant. Wish I saw em more. Can you buy extras to release like people do with ladybugs?

Last Sunday afternoon walking back from the store we saw one roaming around. Couple nights ago our cam captured a clip of one. Still see lot of people walking their dogs. One coyote probably is not a big deal. If there are a few then it's more of a factor. I keep my eyes open when I let our dog out to the back to do her business when it's evening time.
